Two weeks, two excellent releases.

Who's buying Motorstorm today?

Enjoyed the demo (actually thought the tilt control was decent), but didn't like it enough to drop $60. That $60 price point is a huge barrier for me to overcome. I won't be buying many PS3 games until deals start showing up. It will be pretty rare for me to drop $60.

I'm passing on Motorstorm for now as well. The single-player mode is supposed to be pretty shallow, and I'm still irked that a racing game (even one as complex terrain-wise as Motorstorm) on this supposedly powerful hardware runs at 30fps. I may pick it up later if it gets cheap. At $60, I'd rather only get a game I know I'll really get into.

Yeah,

If I pick up a game this week, it will be NBA Street. I love those games, and I think the single player will last longer.

I have a Circuit City gift card from a promotion a little while back, so that'll defray the cost a little. It took a while for me to warm up to the demo, but I became a fan of it after a few tries. Definitely looking forward to doing some online racing.

Is there any place on the system to find out when it was manufactured? I can't seem to find that.

Same here. It's tough to convince myself to pay $60 for a game. I try to be very selective. Of course, we complain about $30 Blu-ray movies, but $60 games isn't a fun price to pay either.

I'll eventually pick up Motorstorm....maybe

I rarely play my PS3, so not too worried about this. Waiting for something I REALLY want I guess.

1up's live coverage of the Phil Harrison keynote at GDC:

Includes some screenshots of the new Home service.

Edit: Can't get the link to work. Just go to 1up.com and look for the GDC blog link on the right side.

Just look at the 360. There are a ton of decent games now under $30. The same thing will happen for the PS3 as well. I'm going to be patient and play PS2 games for now. I'm actually playing Symphony of the Night right now.

Little Big Planet, a physics-based platformer/game creation tool. Looks really cool to me.

Home is supposed to be out in its final version in the fall, with a public beta in April, according to Joystiq:

Wow, lots of second life and Wii ideas being borrowed in this. However, it all looks pretty damn cool.

I remember when the N64 came out and a lot of people hated the fact that they were pricing some of their games at $60 bucks, but eventually they had to reduce prices because no one was buying. I hope this happens with the 360 and the PS3 too.

Personally, I think the whole PlayStation Home thing looks a bit bland.. but I really don't care for any sort of online features of the current consoles. I'll definitely give it a shot when/if I get a PS3.. but I've grown a pretty strong hatred for online social networks.

As far as the avatars go, the whole Mii thing works so much better for me.. it's easier to link something with simple features to somebody than with greater detail where there's more room to be removed as closer as it gets to looking "real." Most people can spend a couple of minutes making a Mii and it'll be "Hey, that looks like you!" whereas I've spent an hour plus on recreating some of my friends on a fairly advanced system like the CAW tools on WWE games and the best I can get is "Yeah, that kind of looks like him." So, in that regard, I'm anxious to see how you build your characters here as I think ANYBODY can make a Mii but with my example of a WWE CAW, it's pretty non-user-friendly unless you want to put the time into it.

Home looks badass.

On a semi-related topic: For those who've played Motorstorm, is it worth blind-buying?

You've really hit on something here. I like the idea of the second life type universe to wander around in. It will be very cool if there is a movie theater or arcade or other places to gather. However, I agree the Mii is more fun for an avatar based system. This could be a little too complicated for my tastes. I'm definitley not spending real money to buy furniture for my house in this PS3 universe.

Dude, I'd recommend downloading the demo first. That way if you get bored fast, no money wasted!

By the way, I finally bought my first playstation: the PS3. I'm pretty impressed so far, very slick machine...
