The wi-fi add on for $99 is the most offensive, but the HDD is pricey as well. The HD DVD drive is pretty affordable, but when you add up the cost to have an equivalent console to the PS3 (that is of course if you wanted all the features) you would be looking at an Elite, HD DVD drive and a Wi-fi card and it would total up to $779.

EXACTLY! It boggles the mind how everyone keeps talking about BD/HD-DVD as something that has to be included in the price of a console. MS is giving you the OPTION. If you were to buy one of those without already having a 360 you'd be paying considerably more. If you're choosing a console based on what type of movies it plays that's fine, but I don't think it's fair to knock a console because of it.

Gametrailers has a developer walkthrough video of Lair in two parts.

Part 1 - 25 MB

Part 1 in HD - 77 MB

Part 2 - 29 MB

Part 2 in HD - 89 MB

Those videos look sweet. This is the first game that actually makes me want a PS3 RIGHT NOW.

Lair is the first PS3 game I've wanted since Resistance.

i just got my ps3 and am pleased with it. More than my xbox 360 when I first got it. Within the first two weeks of getting the 360, it was acting up. After sending 3 back for repair mine got stolen from my friends townhouse along with the games. I was kind of glad it got taken because it was acting up again and the warranty expired on it.

New PS3 firmware available! Here is what we get:

You can now download PlayStation format software from PLAYSTATION Store, and play it on the PS3 system.
You can now use saved data for PlayStation format software on the PSP system.
You can now use the vibration function of accessories that are for use with PlayStation and PlayStation 2 format software.

It is 1.70

Cool update. Wonder when the new sixaxis with rumble will be released.

Had fan that didnt work, I would be playing a game for 10 minutes and the machine would turn itself off. A defective machine that doesnt work and doesnt have a warranty is pretty much useless. For this reason now I have renters insurance in case something like this happens again.

Its still just that-rumored. There is speculation that we may never see it due to liscencing and other issues.

Until a rumble-enabled six axis is out, what does this update do exactly? Is there a way to plug in the PS1 or PS2 controller into the PS3 that I'm not aware of? What other accessories use rumble that can plug into the PS3?

Yeah, the new update does not really exite me, but progress is good. I think that the PS1 games are still NOT playable on the PS3, but this will allow them to work soon (or something like that). I never had a PS1, but no games really interest me that much. I feel let down with these retro compilations and older games usually.

I believe there is a third party USB device that lets you plug in PS2 controllers. It doesn't work with the GH guitar so is pretty much useless to me.

Aw, now I can't make fun of needing a PS3 AND a PSP to do this.

I thought rumble was last-gen. Why are they offering last-gen features on a next-gen console?

Oh, they kissed and made up with Immersion awhile back. Rumble is no longer last gen and Harrison has already come out and flipped on that statement.

They will probably come out with a tagline like "Only the PS3 has next-gen rumble."

Yeah, does no good for me with my rumble-less controller.

So, if the current controller is $50, will a rumble featured one be $60? Just curious how they are going to justify this?

I would assume all the NEW controllers by Sony will have rumble and possibly discontinue the current controllers....we'll see.

I missed Harrison backpedling on that one. Which is too bad, it's one of my favorite insane PS3 executive moments.

I'm sure this has been brought up, but I did a quick search and couldn't find anything. Is there a resume feature for movie playback on the PS3? The only way I can make it work is to leave the PS3 on. Does anyone leave their PS3 on?

For anyone that's interested, I just picked up a copy of NHL 2K7 for $29 at Target. Of course, YMMV. Great game for the price.

Just got an email to register for the Home Beta. It doesn't guarantee a spot, but at least I'm in the running. Hopefully some of us from DVD Talk will get picked.
