Apparently the interface is set up like a Virtual Town where each user has their own virtual apartment. Within your apartment you store your collection of acheivements and virtual trophies to show off to any "visitors" (i.e. people on your Friends list). Your friends could visit you if you are "home" (i.e. online)and once inside they could "walk around" your apartment and view how you've decorated your place. But more importantly, they could listen to any music or watch videos that you've got in your place (i.e. content you've stored on your PS3). Furthermore, your friends could join you for a game of cards or other simple games while listening to your music or even running a movie on your virtual TV (again using data on your PS3 HD). Once outside of your apartment you could visit the virtual Movie Theater to download--what else?--video content, visit the virtual Arcade, and other more exciting areas that I'm not at liberty to discuss yet...
The bottomline is that the interface is going to get a major overhaul and it's supposed to be very slick and user friendly. It will make apparent the advantages of the PS3 hardware and--dare I say--the new Sony Online Network.

That all sounds great but are they going to offer it for free? If it really is a good as Live I don't mind spending a minimal yearly charge. The $50 for Live is very reasonable IMO.
Oh, and I checked online and it doesn't seem like Tekken is out yet. There was an article on Gamespot that said it was.

The press statement says a new business agreement.

Pure speculation on my part, let's say that eventually Sony released a new controller that featured both motion sensing as well as rumble. My understanding is that most (all?) of the PS3 games so far don't even have rumble programmed into the game.
Does PS3 allow for games themselves to receive software updates in order to enable this feature?

With the small number of titles currently out, they probably would just leave them as is, not supporting rumble, similar to how the dualshock 1 didn't change the way you played old PS1 games. What it does do is screw all the people who bought the original PS3 controllers, though.

Or with something like Resistance that will have downloadable content, release a Game of the Year addition with that content and rumble.
Apparently yesterday was a big day for Sony. Can't wait to see them backpeddle on last gen features for the almighty dollar.
And what is with Sony Home? Mii's with Achievements(aka the return of the Entitlements)?
Is there a single creative person at Sony or do they just have a team of reverse engineers? I can see the spin now, "Home has been in the works for years, long before Nintendo Miis" "It was in development alongside the sixaxis as far back as 1998"
All of it actually sounds like an idea Wombat from CAG suggested to a Nintendo rep back around the Wii launch. Instead of Achievements reward people for finishing games with attire for their Miis, like a Zelda sword, shield and cap. Sounded like a great idea at the time.
Sorry for the
but their whole platform is a cobbled together mess of what the competition has to offer(BluRay aside). Anyone that can't see that is turning a blind eye and a deaf ear. They say they don't care about their competitors and aren't even worried about them, but if that were true they wouldn't try and emulate every good idea from them. It's all a bunch of BS if you ask me. They've finally realized after 3 months of Wii sellouts and PS3s sitting on shelves how big a threat the one-two punch of the Wii60 is. Sad.
Flame on.

So, isn't Tekken 5 basically a greatest hits now. I would rather pay $20 for a disc and cover art. They upgraded it a bit right? How big was the download also? Any demo of it? I hate that PSN does not offer demos of the downloaded games.

It's the Dark Hoo-Ha version of Tekken 5, with new characters, stages, etc. and it's in 1080p. If you've got a PS3 and wanted Tekken 5, it's probably the way to go over the PS2 version.

noticing that it was up for download. Took about 30 minutes if that helps

The game is a lot smoother looking than Tekken 5 on the PS2, but plays practically
identical. They put back some of the characters that weren't playable in 5 (like
Armor King), as well as 2 new ones and a previously unplayable boss (Jinpachi).
I'm with you on paying $20 and not getting a disc, but after playing for 3 hours
I'd say we'll get our $$$ out of it

Well guys, I think I'm gonna dive in soon. I'm not as big of a gamer as I used to be (more into movies now), and high def content keeps calling my name. I'm thinking my first Blu-Ray movie is gonna have to be Casino Royale. The first DVD that I ever purchased back in 1998 was the first release of GoldenEye, so this just seems very fitting somehow...

I'm not too shocked about the controller bit.. they updated the PS1 controller (which was a SNES controller with wings) once when the N64 controller came out (to add analog), and once again when the N64 rumble pack came out (to add rumble). Still, it IS a good thing that they're able to add it back in.. sucks for anyone that already bought an extra controller or two already.
Now, just give me a freaking adapter so I can use a PS3 controller on my PS2.. I'm sick of replacing the crappy Logitech wireless every six months.

I ordered a PS3 from Amazon and received it a couple of days ago. With all the recent news and rumors, I'm not having buyers remorse of any kind and I'm enjoying the hell out of the Bluray player and catching up on PS2 releases in the meantime.

Got my PS3 today for $529 using my 10% and a $10 coupon at Target. So far I am pretty impressed with the hardware. Shocked to see it would play SACDs over HDMI even though the receiver is only HDMI 1.1.
Blu-ray playback is excellent and at some point I may even buy a game for it. Nice that they have lots of demos to try at the online store.
