No, you need a group of 5 for the regular dungeons and 10 to 25 for the raids. Both however have dungeon/raid finders and it makes it pretty painless to get dungeons and raids. I just finished dragon souls the final raid in the game last night just from using the raid finder.

There really aren't any solo dungeons in wow, I mean you could solo lower level ones once you level up, but all the drops would be well below you. The dungeon finder tool is so seamless and easy. And I'd suggest you start doing 5-mans as soon as possible in the low level instances.

That reminds me of the first time I played WoW. I was on a PvP server, and I rolled a Tauren Hunter. I tell you, it was so much fun being ganked by players 40 levels higher than me.

Seriously.

I mean I was level 20, and in Hillsbrad questing, and this 60 Gnome Rogue ride by on his horse and waves to me. I see him ride away, and I go back to questing. Seconds later, I am killed in a heartbeat as he ambushes me.

This was back in 2004-2005 when the game was fairly new, so maybe it's different now. But man, what a pain in the ass. I like PvP'ing on my own terms.

Full scale world pvp is amazing. Like 60 horde attacked stormwind last night, was amazing. Getting ganked while leveling by someone 3 times your level, not so much.

I still remember the 10 hour long Tarren Mill and Southshore pvp. Each charging the others town, dying then the other side would run to the others town. Over and over again, was great.

One time a guildy was like "Hey, i just got my Infernal, lets drop it on southshore to test it" We started a war, and it was great.

Actually with the new LFR you can be solo and queue up and do raids. Plus the system allows you to also do this with dungeons.

I am also someone who prefers to solo quest. I do not run dungeons or raid until I hit max level. So the game will allow you to do that if you want.

The good news about the LFR(looking for raid) system is that you can suck and do them and get gear. They are pretty dumbed down to the very basics of raiding.

How do you earn gold in this game? All I find when I loot a monster is copper and silver coins. Do you start getting gold at higher levels? I'm a lvl 9 Gnome Mage.

You only get gold drops off the highest level monsters. You shouldn't really need a lot of gold early on anyway.

Just sell as much trash as you can and throw things up on the auction house from time to time and you'll be fine.

Loot enough silver and you get a gold (100 silver = 1 gold)
but really, you should take up 2 gathering professions. Herbalism and Mining. Gather up all the herbs and ore you can and sell it on the AH. That's the quickest way to make gold for someone your level.
On my server, just last week 1 stack of copper ore sold for 15g. Which is TONS for someone your level.

Also, look for cheap inventory bags on the auction house. Not having to run back to a quest hub every few minutes to sell trash is nice.

Re: World of Warcraft Official Thread - Round 3

I suspect many guilds have members who have outgrown bags that are not bind on equip so you could likely get some bags in a leveling guild.

I went mining and herbing on my first main and it helped a ton.

Get a crafting or gathering profession and sell your stuff on the AH. Mining and Skinning are pretty good for some quick cash.

For armor and weapons some are highlighted red. Does that mean i can sell it since it's useless or will my armor weapon rating go up where i'd eventually be able to use it?

You mean it's red in your bag? Then yes, it means you can't use it now. You might be able to use it later if it's just level restrictions, but depending on your class it may be something you can't ever use.

For example if your a Mage you can only use cloth armor, and daggers/staffs/wands as weapons (although you can learn the ability to use a sword later) so if you find a leather chest piece you won't be able to use it ever.

To add to this. If you are a hunter you can only use Leather at the beginning, but (now sure what level now, used to be 40) you can move up to chain mail. For warrior it is chain mail at the beginning and then plate later.

Re: World of Warcraft Official Thread - Round 3

I guess the loss of players has hit a huge number and they are trying a new promotion.

A friend sends you a scroll you get:

When your friend accepts your invitation and returns to WoW, he or she immediately receives the following FREE rewards:
1-One character boosted to level 80
2-FREE upgrade to Cataclysm
3-7 FREE days of game time
4-FREE character move to your realm and faction so you can play together

When your resurrected friend pays for at least 30 days of game, you receive your choice of the following FREE rewards:

Spectral Gryphon for an Alliance Character
Or
Spectral Wind Rider for a Horde character

There is a whole lot of information about it on the website. Also some of the perks can not work right if you do them wrong so if you get a friend to invite you be careful and read the FAQ.

Re: World of Warcraft Official Thread - Round 3

So this new scroll of resurrection will have me and a big chunk of my old guild coming back to WoW, at least for awhile. I haven't been too happy with SWTOR. Anything that I should know that has changed in the game since the beginning of Cata? Basically I just leveled one of my characters to 85 and quit, so I haven't done any instances, raids, etc at all in Cata.

Re: World of Warcraft Official Thread - Round 3

Ive been enjoying WoW a lot recently. I keept getting characters to 85 and then gearing them up in the new End of Time heroics (drop epic ilevel 378 gear) until i can get into the Looking For Raid raids and try to win 384-390 gear. the new heroics are nice since they only take like 20 minutes if your group knows what its doing

I don't know that there has been a lot of basic changes to the overall mechanics since Cataclysm dropped beyond the usual class tweaks - some got better, some got worse, as usual. The Raid Finder stuff is new - as someone who just got into raiding during Cata, I sure would have liked LFR back in the Wrath days. It's a good way to get quickly geared up for normal-level raiding, if that's what you are shooting for.

Re: World of Warcraft Official Thread - Round 3

I think LFR gives people a chance to see a watered down form of raiding and some hopes to get lucky on Tier gear upgrades.

I suspect that you could come back for a 30 day period and get to 85 and see the whole DS raid in LFR at least before that 30 days is done.

Of course you could leave again and wait for another promo for MoP and see the content in that expansion in 30 days again.

I can't decide if I'm going to come back for Mists of Pandaria or not. This has been the longest (6 months) I've ever been clean from the game. Don't know if I should let it suck me back in or not...

Re: World of Warcraft Official Thread - Round 3

I'm officially sucked back in and have signed up for the annual pass. I was planning on getting Diablo 3 anyway, so if I play for 8 months out of the year, it's a wash. Just about my entire 10 man raiding team has come back as well. We did a daisy chain of SOR invitations. After playing SWTOR through the beta last fall and for the few months since release, I'm really enjoying WoW again. SWTOR just feels like an unfinished game. I'm keeping my sub so I can see what the content patches have to offer, but for now, WoW occupies my time and keeps me playing with my friends.

Re: World of Warcraft Official Thread - Round 3

I've been playing and running LFR and the new heroics with my brother in law and wife. The thing I hate about the LFR is people needing on everything, regardless of if they are wearing said item or not, and then trying to bargain with it later.

"Trade you those legs for this shield I won."

The class role bonus helps a little, but my mage is constantly getting outrolled by large numbers. I roll a 137, the winner does a 195.

In fact, I have done LFR at least a dozen times on both my mage and pally, and lost every roll. The only time I got items was when I lost a dagger role and the mage that won suddenly opened a trade window and gave it to me.

Then someone asked if anyone needed the token for the gloves and after I linked my quest purple, they gave it to me.

It is fun, though.

Oh and the people bitching about dps in the heroics. I hate that. We were crusing along, no deaths, and they tell my brother in law he has low dps. I said he's gearing up, and they say "tough, hit the regular heroics then" and kick him.

So the fights took an extra minute or two. Big deal.

Then we get the same two guys that bitched in the next group and they tell him he has low dps again and I do as well, and we are both "terribad."

Also, a warrior tank was bitching that my wife had low dps, and told her to leave. He didn't bother to try and kick since it was myself, my bro in law, and the wife making up three of the 5 members in the group. I explain to him that she is learning, and he says "you are a sad pos guild" then proceeds to pull some mobs, and leaves the group, along with the healer (his guildee), causing a wipe.

Re: World of Warcraft Official Thread - Round 3

i usually just ignore the chat during LFR and LFD. 90% of the time i get a group that says nothing even if there is someone with super low dps.
i hate when people say "go get geared up in the lower heroics" because the non-new heroics are terrible. no one who knows what they're doing runs them anymore so you're lucky if you can get through one boss before having people leave. and if you do end up getting, gear its like 346 blue which you'll just upgrade to 378 purple one you his the 3 new heroics.
my method of gearing up my fresh level 85s is:
- to do the "save thrall" and "open the firelands" quest lines in Mt Hyjal, they will give you a 359 epic cloak and a 378 piece you can buy
- buy the 378 bracer on the AH, usually can be found for 500g +/- 200g
- buy other cheap AH 378 epic, like a necklace or thrown weapon (there are a few that usually drop down in the 300-500g range)
- fill in remaining spots with 377 blue crafted pvp gear until i the ilevel required to run the new heroics.

when you buy gear from the AH or get it from quests, you dont have to equip it in order to have the ilevel count. example: on my dps warrior i wanted to hit the ilevel required to get into the new heroics so i got some of the 377 crafted pvp gear, an epic 378 thrown weapon and a holy pally BoE 378 epic chest piece. I didnt equip the pally chest piece or the thrown item but i could still queue for the new heroics. after i got 378 epic pieces from the dungeon (and dungeon quests are good for a couple) i sold the BoE stuff that i had never equiped.
totally cheated the system but once you do the 3 new dungeons and complete the quests you usually are geared up enough anyways. you may have some people who boot you since a quick "inspect" will show you're undergeared but most of the time no one cares if you're only putting out 7-8K dps when others are doing 15-25k

Re: World of Warcraft Official Thread - Round 3

Your method for gearing is pretty similar to mine. Except I didn't do the Thrall quest after my main. That and the Firelands dailies. Once was enough

But I was doing 14k dps with an undergeared Feral DPS Druid, and nobody complained. But my Mage does 22k-24k dps and I am "terribad."

I've never been kicked or asked to leave for low dps though.
