Well i finally got world of warcraft to run after over 10 hours of patch downloads and installations! I was just gonna spend about an hour playing but ended up playing 3 1/2 hours 
Loved every minute of it though. Had a couple of questions:
I heard that the graphics card can sometimes overheat. Is that from excessive playtime or maxing out the settings?
Also i decided to name my character Trollmix. Are silly names okay to have in WOW or will i be ignored by other players to go on the later quests? I've heard there can be some hardcore players in that game. Is there any way to change your characyters name?

The only way you could currently change your name would be to transfer your character to another server where that name is already taken (and this costs something like $25). But as long as you remain on your current server you are stuck with your name.

I wouldn't worry too much about your name. There are a ton of people out there with much dumber names! Really, you are probably more likely at higher levels to take a bit of ribbing for playing a troll.

Yeah, while I don't doubt they have ideas (or even names) for upcoming expansions, I highly doubt they would have exact dates they want to launch them.
I wouldn't be surprised if WOTLK is launched in November though, that seems about right, maybe even late October.

I hit 77 last night on beta but couldnt figure out how to use my flying mount. i "learned" the item way back when i was 70 but i still get a "you cant use that here" message when i try to "cast the spell" golden griffon.

I thought I read that there is a quest you have to do somewhere once you get 77 in order to use a flying mount in Northrend.

Yup, there is a quest that you can do once you hit 77 that lets you defrost your mount. Pretty easy to do and only takes ~15 minutes.

In a couple of weeks they are going to do the pre-expansion patch. Here is the post with some of the stuff they are adding before the xpack.
With the release of Wrath of the Lich King approaching, we wanted to provide you with some important information. In preparation for the expansion, we will be issuing a new content patch in the coming weeks. Much like the patch made available shortly before The Burning Crusade's release, this content patch is designed to bridge current game content with that of the expansion and will contain some exciting changes and additions.
We have outlined some of the larger features scheduled to release with the patch below:
New class spells and talents
Stormwind Harbor
Barbershops in capital cities
Zeppelin towers outside of Orgrimmar and Tirisfal Glades
Two brand-new Arenas featuring challenging new layouts, terrain hazards, and moving obstacles
Guild calendar
Hunter pet skill revamp
New profession: Inscription
As mentioned above, this is not a comprehensive list, just some of the major highlights. We’ll post the full patch notes as soon as they’re available. Regarding Inscription, please note that all Burning Crusade players will be able to select Inscription as one of their two professions and level up to a skill level of 375 with it. the 2.0 patch was like Dec 12th or 15th and TBC came out a month later.
we had just killed Razorgore in BWL and then the patch/expansion and xmas/holidays hit and screwed up raiding til the summer.
I wonder how they'll deal with season 4 and the 3.0 patch. they should end season 4 before the patch since there will be a ton of 'lightly test' changes that could have huge affects in the arenas.
I also assume the "+damage +healing to +spell power" change will happen with this patch as well. healers will be free to respec to DPS classes and use their same gear and not suck.
i wonder how many people are stocking up on lower level herbs to sell on the AH when Inscriptions is introduced

Yeah, a month sounds about right. We had just killed Nefarian before it hit. I don't think they'll end Season 4 anytime soon. It just started. Arenas will definitely be wonky.
I'm betting that change will go in as well.
I think it's interesting that they're putting Inscription in before the patch. They didn't do that with jewelcrafting. I was planning on making my new death knight my inscriber.

At the moment I have ~10 stacks of each herb type to lvl it as quick as I can on my mage. So can't wait for this to happen!

I just realized i've had my firewall for wow off since dowloading the patches. That was on thursday. It was only off for wow only but i'm still concerned. Is there a chance that my computer is now at risk? Is Blizzard security good enough?
