Which would make them different than a standard dvd.

I just read this in IGN's FAQ for the Revolution, I was away for a week so I might have missed this correction, I apologize if I'm repeating known information:
I had thought that statement was still correct as I saw some people refering to it.
Q: Is Revolution "two-to-three times more powerful than GameCube"?
A: USA Today reported this news based on a comment from Nintendo of America's vice president of corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan. The information was later determined to be false. We do not yet know how much more power Revolution wields over its predecessor.

I would ask, determined by who? Saying its wrong and proving its wrong are two very different things. I would stick with the 2-3x more powerful line until you hear something different from Nintendo. I don't expect them to challenge Sony or Microsoft in power because they don't need it.
Based on the comments about how Revolution developement would be very similar to GameCube development, I would guess a 2GHz PowerPC based single core-processor. Not much room in that thing for cooling, so I doubt they could get much higher than that.

I don't know how they "confirmed" anything. The point is that information is wrong. Just accept the fact that we do not know how powerful the Revolution will be. IGN, like any news service, does not need to give full disclosure on the information they publish. The reason you trust it is their years of service and previous integrity. They don't have to "prove" things to the reader. You are welcome to disbelieve it if you wish, but they have nothing to gain by lying on such a trivial matter.
The reason the development will be similar is because its based on the same core processor technology and and utilizing the same company for the GPU, which is also true for the memory they are utilizing. You can not drawl conclusions that it is going to be significantly weaker at this point because of that.
The fact the Nintendo is the only console maker that is re-using the same partners as last gen is a testament to the Nintendo's decisions and design partners of this generation. I've said it a hundred times already, consider the GC, 1/4 the size as the xbox, significantly less power consumption, nearly the same performance of xbox. No doubt sacrifices will be made in making it small, but it does not mean it will inferior.
Finally, the speed of a chip is only one factor that dictates cooling requirements. Consider material, copper vs. aluminum, the gekko in the GC utilizes this advantage to be significantly smaller and cooler.

Apparently the "Nintendo of America's vice president of corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan" said that is what it was going to be. As I have no reason to disbelieve him, I'm going to rely on this until I hear something different from Nintendo.

This makes no sense to me. You are willing to trust IGN when they say that there was a report of the unit being 2-3 times more powerful, but not when its not. Ever heard "innocent until proven guilty"?

- took a guess on the gender and got it wrongBut if you read, it says "USA Today reported..." not IGN. And they have a source to go along with that statement. IGN, on the otherhand, has only said it is incorrect, and have NOT provided any source of that statement.
So am I going to trust a news organization that provides a source for their information, or a news organization that provides no source? Did I really need to ask that question?
Just cause the statement is more agreeable with what you think, doesn't mean it is correct.

[rant ON]How is a news orginization siting another one more reliable then a single source? ITS STILL ONLY ONE SOURCE. IGN IS A SOURCE. USE your brain for crying out loud.
You know everyone recommends putting you on the ignore list, I have chosen not to because I do find that you occasionally have an insight I have not considered, but this constant coming into Nintendo and MS threads doing your best to make each non-existant system look bad is really annoying.
I have no problem with you posting news that paints Nintendo or whomever badly, I have no problem with you sharing your opinion if you want to knock them, but for everyone's sake please limit these posts in which you are choosing to blatenly ignore life.[rant OFF]

edit: And like Jeff said, you do occasionally give some good information and what not, as long as it is Sony we are talking about.

Jeff,
USA Today = One Source (Ms. Kaplan)
IGN = No Source
IGN is not a source, they are a news organization. If Nintendo told IGN that the statement was wrong, then IGN should have posted who at Nintendo said that. I'm not going to believe IGN just because they say something - I am not that loyal to IGN to trust every single word that comes out of their collective mouths.
I don't understand how this is even an issue. All day everyone in this thread talks about how its the games that will make the next generation, but when I point to a statement from a Nintendo official saying that it won't be as powerful as you think, everyone starts crying. I point to something Nintendo said, and you immediately find something to contradict that official statement (as far as we know) and back it 100%. Is it that difficult to accept what was said? Do you have any reason to distrust Ms. Kaplan or USA Today for reporting it (and Nintendo conveniently not issuing a PR response as per the norm with a misquote)?

No, I just know that statements are often misquoted, misreported, and improperly interpreted. If IGN says that a USA today article was later proven to be found wrong I believe them. I agree with you that the part I quoted does not specifically say who they spoke with, however if you read their site you would have realized the info i posted, from their FAQ, is a combination of all their other info gained at E3 through interviews and personal inspection so you would realize that they have negated that previous "report" themselves.

Look at the source you gave, it never says she even said that it was 2-3 times as powerful, rather the writer states that, how is that any different then IGN?:
Nintendo makes more modest claims that Revolution is two or three times more powerful than GameCube. "It's not all about having 'turbo power,' " Nintendo's Perrin Kaplan says. "It's about what you do with it."

For instance, when you read about a murder, they tell you the name, age and sex or the person murdered, but don't post the exact quote from officer who spoke it. They either name the source, or they quote the source to reveal it. Example : link
Same thing happened here.
You are taking a guess that IGN has additional information. Can you at least accept the fact that you could possibly be wrong and that I may be right?

FWIW - I don't know what the articles said since I just skimmed the last few posts... but USA Today is the last place I'd look to get "the news" or even "the truth".

Josh you are 100% right, always have been, please posting your insightful thoughts on Nintendo's demise.
As you might have noticed, I already agreed with you that IGN failed to mention their source in the FAQ part that I quoted, I suggest to head over to IGN and read the interviews there for reference to where they are getting their rebuttal.
Going to see star wars now, later.
