If nothing else, the music will be good this week!

Thought that was much better than last week. The Universal Studio tour, the Cancel Kids on Weekend Update, the Zillow ad, the It Gets Better bit at the end. Lots of good stuff tonight.

And yes, Phoebe was AMAZING!

I thought the mix was bad. The band was drowning out her voice. I honest to god didn't even know if she was singing in English at the beginning of the song because I couldn't hear the words.

Never heard of Phoebe Bridgers before tonight and absolutely loved her and that first song. Didn't like that second song at all though. Will seek out her other music ASAP.

Here's an article from The Ringer about that second song, which they call the song that best captures the spirit of 2020 and ranked as the #2 song of the year. Maybe give it another listen sometime?

Cancel kids was great.

Loved Aidy Bryant playing both Andy Reid and Bruce Arians.

That was my first time hearing Phoebe Bridgers. I was jazzed that it's female-fronted alternative guitar rock, which is one of my favorite genres. I liked it, but not as much as I'd hoped. She was a little stoic, except for the end of song 2 of course. I'm intrigued enough to want to check out more of her songs though.

The rest of the show was indeed better than usual. I think I got my biggest laughs out of Weekend Update, especially when Michael Che showed Morgan Wallen and Colin Jost together.

The funniest thing I've seen on this show in quite a while was the singer trying to smash the amp(?) with her guitar.

It was a wedge monitor.

I don't know if it really was a monitor or just a prop, but if it was a monitor I have to respect Feebs for using old school on-stage monitors vs. in-ear. I still have it on my DVR, I'll have to watch it again.

It wasn't a great episode, but it wasn't bad. A few good sketches.
I think Dan was in every sketch except WU. He did good.

I've never heard of Phoebe Bridgers before. She was good.
The first song was decent, but I really liked the second song. It was a good musical performance. I'll check our her CDs.

It's funny, I was noticing in both performances that something seemed off about the guitar she was using, like it totally looked like a cheap knockoff or something, and I got my answer at the end.

I liked last weeks show better but this was not horrrible either.

I thought Bridgers was trying to channel Cobain and failed or had a mental breakdown

I like SNL more now that Trump is not the entire focus of the show and Baldwin's Trump impressions were getting old.

If you want Trump shit go watch Colbert's boring show.

As long as you are using your time machine, go back far enough to warn people about 9/11.

CD = album. Plus there's nothing wrong with CDs.

And sorry, if I had a time machine - I'm loading up on Amazon, Google and Apple stock first.

No need to justify your response. Music is still sold on CD. I personally don't buy that format any longer, but I know quite a few people who do.

If you wanted to point out the flaw in my joke, you should have explained that if he went back in a time machine more than a few years, no Phoebe Bridgers recordings would exist.

Someone said it was like watching Montgomery Burns trying to smash a guitar.

I thought Phoebe was awful... the music, the performance. She made Machine Gun Kelley's performance seem like classic Zeppelin.

So I watched Ms. Bridgers' performances again last night. Yeah, the music isn't bad, but like my first take I just wish she'd shown more energy. And yeah, the guitar smash was weak. Just like the musical part of the performance, she didn't put everything she had into it, and it showed. I'm slightly surprised at her choice of instruments to smash though; the first song she was playing a BC Rich Bronze, $199 at WalMart, the guitar she tried to break looked like a Danelectro Baritone, around $499.
