45 minutes in, and it’s not very good. The 2 prerecorded shorts were good, but the live stuff is lame.

Surprised Bateman has only hosted twice and the last time in 2005.
He should be in the rotation of repeating guest hosts.
The Santa and Mrs Claus in balls sketch fell flat.
Weekend Update was pretty good and Davidson kills it when he comes on with his commentary.

The skit with Morgan Wallen about his breaking COVID quarantine was a fun way to address this altho it ultimately fell flat. It was amazing how much Morgan Wallen and Jason Bateman looked alike!
For me the best skit of the night was the NYC cabaret on the sidewalk act. Cecily Strong is a powerhouse and should be given as much acclaim as Kate McKinnon. Aside from being a voluptuous beauty, she is a decent singer and does a great mimic of Liza Minelli. She shines at playing anonymous Jane Q. Public type of characters with over the top personality traits or character quirks like the one in the opening Giuliani skit. I love her crackhead landlady bit she does with Michael Che and her impression of Jeanine Pirro is always good for a laugh.
It was also nice to see Bowen Yang getting some screen time in skits where he isn't just relegated to playing an Asian or gay character.
I agree this week the writing felt off and you could tell the audience was definitely missed. The Santa in a plastic ball sketch was filled with deadly silence where laughs ought to have been. But it just wasn't funny.
Does anyone find Kyle Mooney's skits funny? I don't know how he made it on to the show or why he has been there so long. I think Lorne Michaels throws him a bone now and then letting him put these awful pre-filmed bits together of his sad-sack character which are usually saved for the experimental stuff they do toward the end of the show and it never works. Its always more tragic and sad than funny. I guess I just don't get it.

My kids and I were discussing last night how deathly unfunny Kyle Mooney is and has been for years now. My son, who is 14 and has an encyclopedic memory of things he's ever seen once, sited a pre-recorded bit where Kyle got married to Leslie Jones that he recalled being funny. He then found it on You Tube and showed it to me. That was okay, but if you have to be Rain Man to recall an amusing bit for a guy who's in his eighth season on a comedy sketch show, maybe it's time to leave.

Yes.
Hard to believe Stan is straight up 20 years ago. WTF ever happened to Dido?
This week's was a miss, but I find Mooney to be hit and miss just like the rest of the show every week.
Ugh. The first sketch with the girl's sleepover was just a straight repeat of one they did before.

Yeah, this one wasn't great, but Davidson's bits were good.
And count me in as someone who is not really a fan of Mooney.

Santa Stan and Weekend Update were good, the rest was not great. They’ve done the sleepover skit before.
That real lady from Michigan that Stong played in the open was a living version of Strong’s WU character drunk girl you wish you never started a conversation with so that wasn’t a stretch for her to play.
I was thinking the exact same thing about Mooney during the last sketch

That was a brutal episode.
Was the ambient mic broken or something during The Claus's in the plastic bubble skit? I know it wasn't a funny skit, but even during bad skits the crowd isn't as quiet as they were here.
No idea who the musical guest was, but his music and mullet didn't impress me.
Kyle Mooney's talent lies mostly in the awkward cringy comedy. He's really good at it, but it gets boring when you keep going back to that well all the time - especially it's not really intended to draw a lot of laughs.
Someone messed up in the bar scene - at one point Bateman was talking but the camera was only showing the other guys.
The cold open would've been funnier if the real life scenario they made fun of wasn't a comedy on its own. All they had to do was show the real footage.

Was just about to cite Brigsby Bear as one of the best movies in recent years, but you beat me to it.
I didn't see the earlier Bateman episode, but I wonder why they even had a sketch with a live monkey at all. Monkeys are NOT friendly and easy to work with. They tried that in the 80s with the recurring sketch I Married a Monkey, and Tim Kazurinsky tells stories about how scary it was to do those bits. I guess that because Lorne Michaels wasn't EP those years, he didn't know.

Hard to believe that Kyle Mooney is roaming the same halls that Bill Murray and John Belushi once did.
Guys like Chevy Chase and Norm Macdonald would've eaten him for lunch.

Pretty awful episode.
Was surprised they didn’t have Rudy dripping mud off his head in the open.
Also I must be the only person who thinks saying “Stan” when talking about a stalker or super fan is crazy annoying.
Santa Stan?

Since that terminology comes directly from the Eminem song and video that the sketch was based on, it seems like the appropriate nomenclature here.

Sure.
Can’t dispute that.
I am aware of that song but don’t listen to that style of music so I’m not familiar with the lyrics of it.
Mever saw that video either.
I only know it from people mostly teens saying it on twitter and Instagram.
I’ll get over it until the next contracted word comes along

I not only wonder how Kyle Mooney has stayed on the show for eight seasons, but how the fuck he even made it onto the show in the first place.

Norm Mcdonald hired him for his Sports show on Comedy Central and wonder if Norm recommended him to Lorne or somebody from SNL saw him and gave him an audition.
