Re: SNL (S44S16) -- 03/30/19 -- H: Sandra Oh -- MG: Tame Impala
Pretty 'Meh' Episode...
I was surprised to see the Jussie Smollett skit which existed solely to make fun of Jussie having no credibility left and being boy who cried wolf. I guess mainstream Hollywood has decided that his career is over, was wondering to see which way that would go. The 'Tishy' and nerd with his future selves skit was fun to watch Sandra do her best take on Awkwafina's schtick. Weekend Update was solid as usual with some great jokes about Trump being 'White OJ' and with Jeanine Pirro flying off her chair Old lady wanting coworkers to kiss was just weird...kind of sick seeing Kate McKinnon play the same old lady part every week I thought final skit was funny with the overly emotional high school students bringing their personal issues to their schoolwork but couldn't help but notice Pete Davidson cracking up the whole time. You can always count on SNL to expose you to the latest hot new musical act, in this case the mellow psychedelic rock of Tame Impala which for me was a pass but at least its nice to see what's new out there.... |

So this was the last time we will be subjected to DeNiro staring at the cue cards and stumbling over the dialogue as Mueller? :toast:

So Kate was definitely doing Jordan Catalano in the last sketch, and I guess Aidy's red hair made her Angela Chase.

This episode had some really weird sketches. Usually they average one of those each episode, but this one had like 4 of them.
Sandra Oh was decent. She committed herself to the characters. Loved the t-shit with the retro CBC logo she was wearing. Gotta buy something with that logo. Never head of Tame Impala, but wow do they suck. It almost felt like their performances were sketches themselves about awful music.

Credit to the band for putting "Tame" in their name to show just how toothless they are.

Cecily's Pirro impression was the best.
"I want to take this opportunity to say hi to my super fans out there: mean, horny men laying on in-home hospital beds and white prison gangs who control the remote on Saturdays. Thank you for watching!" |

Hopefully so! I agree he didn't bring anything special to playing the role altho I bet it helped DeNiro channel some of his rage. Kudos to the makeup team, this last version of Mueller was definitely the closest looking to the real thing yet! |

I watched up until Weekend update. not a huge fan of Sandra Oh, but I did like her opening monologue until Leslie Jones showed up, but overall it was somewhat Meh episode. I have to wonder how Cicily manages to go so stone cold as Jeanine Pirro, loved her shoe flying off at the end of that bit.
The cold open was just terrible, I imagine its mocking some movie or other but it really fell flat and set the tone for another off week for the show. |

The Us-inspired Discover Card commercial was pretty well done.

Re: SNL (S44S16) -- 03/30/19 -- H: Sandra Oh -- MG: Tame Impala
Tame Impala should save themselves a bunch of money and fire their three mediocre keyboard players and hire a single decent one. Then, fire their bongo drummer, since he hardly contributes anything, and they already have a regular drummer. Then they should just break up, because they are terrible.

First time I’ve watched an episode in maybe 10 years. It’ll now be another before I subject myself to that again. I just can’t believe how bad this show is now. That aside, for sone bizarre reason, I laughed my ass off to Electric Shoes. |

I’ve never heard of Tame Impala before now, but it was cool to see what the Geico cavemen are doing now. |

I'm surprised that no one is familiar with Tame Impala. It's not my kind of music, but they are headlining major festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza this year. They couldn't get much bigger.

They need to have Ghost on as a musical guest. |

Sara Bareilles is the next guest and I thought her 15 minutes of fame expired? |
