Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
I still can't get over how smart those guys are. They were answering triple rhyme time and before-middle-and-after in about one second, while I was still digesting the clues.
But at least I knew Jeet Kune Do. |
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
I got the strong impression that Jeopardy's producers wanted Jennings to win the title. The categories, especially the repeated Shakespeare questions, were largely aimed at Ken's most dominant knowledge domains. Intimately knowing these contestants and their past histories on the show, it wouldn't be difficult constructing a board that tilts the odds towards one contestant.
Brad was a massive disappointment - he really only seemed to be there to block James from getting the Daily Doubles. Considering his past showings, one wonders what's really going on in his life. |
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
You don't honestly believe they rigged Jeopardy!, do you?
I'm glad I didn't check my TiVo 'ToDo' list, as I would've been pissed if it had spoiled the outcome, for me. |

Another thing I notice about Jeopardy is that the answers they give are sometimes a bit wordy and confusing, and I need to parse them out them before I can come up with the right question; it often feels like Yoda wrote them. Not sure if it's by design, to make it more difficult, or because they're giving "answers" that need "questions." |
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
How about that Math to Roman Numerals to actor name category? Clealy you could get some without doing the math, but my brain was still processing the answer when they were buzzing in.
Poor Brad, just wasn't his game this time. I mean he got so many Double Jeopardys and shot the moon on all and lost multiple times. Brutal. That's how James' changed the game. Contestants going all in when they probably shouldn't. That was fun. I was hoping it would go another night. |
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
It was a good watch and Jennings was amazing, but I am not so sure the format was that great. It basically came down to who found the daily doubles. Not sure what they could do to fix it Brad was just soooo over matched. I got the impression that the other 2 really worked on their knowledge. I thought the categories were maybe a little too much in their wheelhouse, and while there were some obscure clues, there were a LOT of others that seemed obscure from the clue but could be guessed just from context.

I'm baffled that anyone thinks they would rig this in any way. They have zero to gain from that. |

It's the same format they use in every tournament. It was just done in an hour format, rather than over two days.

If you are building a lasting brand and following, you want Ken representing Jeopardy over the other two. This becomes more important since Trebek's remaining time on Jeopardy is quite limited. No one is quite sure if Jeopardy's ratings will remain high after he departs. |

where did you get that from? Ive never heard of anyone that thinks this. James has brought the game back into the limelight by creating an interesting strategy and not that same old boring top to bottom category at a time game play. |

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
I thought James style influenced Ken's gameplay and it worked out great for him, this was a super fun tournament and I'm glad they were all there to play these rounds with Alex

He wasn't even close to the first of doing that. |

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
For those saying that Brad must have “lost it” or something, he did just recently win the team tournament as team leader.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
I found this article on the Lowest Scoring Jeopardy Contestant. Change of pace for those debating playing strategy.

Question: "Two hit men, a boxer, a crime boss & others meet their fates over the course of two days" (Category: Movies in the DirecTV Guide for $2000)His answer: Snatch Correct answer: Pulp Fiction |
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
I saw this thread was bumped before I got caught up for the week so I thought their might have been something on the show worth talking about.
Friday's show was interesting, with the guy that started out pretty bad and getting down to -$2000 and then won the game by doing a late true daily double when he was already in first place. And he also did some trolling with his Final Jeopardy answer of Aleve and a wager of $1337. |
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
Anyone else think the "Berry Gordy"/"Barry Gordy" thing on Final Jeopardy was bullshit?
|
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
It was pretty stringent.
|
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
Alex Trebek all but announced what we've all been thinking. That Ken Jennings will take over as host. A week or two ago Jennings did a whole category and after that Alex said something about looking over his shoulder.
|
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
Do you know what day that was. I would like to try to find that ep.
|
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
Ken Jennings was a fun story until he became Ken Jennings, Inc. I would have preferred someone else. Alex is not the GOAT because he is a master of arcane trivia and timing a button push.

But I think the more important question is. Who else? Certainly not that blonde lady on Jeopardy. Have there been any celebrities on Jeopardy that did well that might make good hosts? |

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
I like Ken and he is charming and a likable enough guy that fans of the show can immediately gravitate to without skipping a beat BUT he has kind of a nasally voice, IMO which would be awful for a host reading clues. Voice and cadence are everything for the next host.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
A guy I worked with back in San Diego posted on Facebook that he will be on Jeopardy! on Monday.

I'd be perfectly fine with either him or Ken. I think Ken is telegenic and has enough charisma to pull off the hosting gig. Or they could go with Will Ferrell. |
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
LeVar Burton could be good. More of a celebrity, but not so much that he’d be obnoxious like some game shows with celebrity hosts. Ken Jennings would be a fine choice though too given his history on the show.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
I would kind of like to see Ben Bailey of "Cash Cab" fame given a shot.
|
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
Going outside of the box a bit, what about Jeff Probst? Or Phil Keoghan?
|
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
I'm pretty sure the job is Ken's to lose. Only if the ratings crater after he takes over would someone else get a crack.

Now, he would be my number one choice. And they should totally let Will Ferrell host it in between just for the fun of it. |
