Dang, just when I thought we were rid of him.

Jeopardy Ultimate Tournament of Champions
it's ont this week. haven't watched Jeopardy since Ken lost but decided to watch tonight and found out it's the ultimate tournament
no idea when/if ken is going to be on |
If I remember correctly from when they made the announcement, Ken won't be on this round. The top two winners of this tourney will square off against Ken come next sweeps...oh, I mean May.
|
Kind of cruel in some cases to show the contestants as they were when they won on Jeopardy originally, and then immediately cut to them as they are today. Like the one teen champ from 86 who had a mullet back then and absolutely nothing on top today. :)
There's 144 former contestants, whittled down to 2 to face Jennings. The winner gets $2 million, I think. I'm not sure if the final will be one game or two. |
Anybody else getting that commecial with Ken Jennings about 10 times a day (at least)?
(I think it's for Cingular) |
yeah. for a cell phone commercial I kind of like it
was thinking it should have been a superbowl commercial but I don't remember it during the superbowl yet I did see it the monday after |
I believe the final showdaow will be Ken vs the 2 remaining final champs in a 3 day tournament. BTW...they've really cranked up the difficulty of these questions, as they should. usually, My fiance and i get about 80% right during a typical show, probably around 25% on this tourney.

My VCR didn't get the last few seconds of tonight's show with blind Eddie on it...Did he win? i gotta know!!!!!!!1
|
I've been forgetting to watch.
I think I remember a blind guy from a few years ago though, was it that guy? |
Blind Eddie bet all he had in final, got it right, but the guy who was in the lead ended up winning.
|
thanks guys!
|
I've actually been watching some of these (haven't watched much Jeopardy! since Ken lost), and I have to agree with most people that a lot of these questions are pretty difficult.
Can't wait til Ken comes back for the ultimate showdown. |
Do we actually know when Ken and the showdown are happening?

They ought to just call it "Who Wants To Be Ken Jenning's Bitch?"
|
Hey Turd, that's a funny hat. It's funny because it's ah, bigger than, ah...you know, a normal hat.
Sorry, couldn't resist on a Jeopardy thread. |

So I was watching Jeopardy the other day and I couldn't believe how easy the questions were. Have they dumbed it down a lot? 10 years ago that guy would have never won so many in a row.

But to your meaning, the contestants in a given game have to answer the same questions. So if they are more difficult, I would think the better player would outclass lesser opponents even moreso. If the questions were quite simple, it would be all about the button, and anyone with good timing could be a thousand time champ. But with more difficult questions, you have to think about and believe you know the question before you just automatically buzz, and a truly smarter player will win every time over a good button presser who would probably end up with a vastly negative dollar amount. Obviously the best result will be by someone good at both, and that is Ken to a T. |

Hey, don't worry about that. I still record on a VCR. Seeing as I am a poor person who is in college. I would rather just buy dvds and beer instead of TIVO and a dvd recorder.. :) |

Wow. I must be really dumb then. Cause I get confused as to how these people even know that random stuff. Especially the geographical or historical questions... The Al Pacino category last night I kicked their asses on though :D |
Anyone still watching? I haven't for a few days, I think they're in the Third Round now.

You are correct, sir! |
I believe I read Ken should be on 05/23-05/25? (Which I think corresponds with the last three days of sweeps)
|
Last night's game was pretty fucked up. Guy in third going into FJ wins.

Semifinals begin tonight. A pair of two-day, total point matches. The two winners here will proceed to the Finals and face-off against the most successful contestant in game show history: Ken Jennings. At stake is a two million dollar Grand Prize and the title of Jeopardy! Ultimate Tournament of Champions winner.
The 3-day total point final begins next Monday. |
I've been watching most of the shows during the tournament, it's entertaining. I like that chick Pam, she is pretty cute.

PAM MUELLER Date of first appearance: November 10, 2000 Total winnings: $55,000 and a 2001 Volvo S60 (still driving it!) Records/Stats: 2000 College Champion, 2001 ToC semifinalist Favorite anecdote associated with being on the show: From the time I was on the show until I graduated, I was "The Jeopardy! Girl" at Loyola. I couldn't go to class or to the cafeteria without someone stopping me or someone pointing me out to their friends. It got a little frustrating, since none of the people knew anything about me beyond that one fact. One night, I was at a party, and a girl came up to me and said, "Hey! You're the Jeopardy! girl!!" My friend Nick then stepped in and said, "No. This is Pam . She was also on Jeopardy." Did being on Jeopardy! have any affect on your life? I had a brief period of mini-celebrity where I was instantly recognizable both on campus and on the streets of Chicago . Also, being able to put Jeopardy! College Champion on my resume gave me immediate intellectual credibility (whether deserved or not - you decide) and helped me stand out from the crowd when looking for jobs. Did you do anything crazy with your winnings? No, but if I do well in this tournament, I'm going to quit work early and travel for part of the summer - one last hurrah before law school. Is there anything else you would like viewers to know about you? Though I stopped performing with the Trinity Irish Dancers when I moved away from Chicago , I haven't left the stage. I have been performing in local productions of musicals in DC, and I'm choreographing my first show right now. |
for anyone who maybe interested..
Tune in May 18 for BIOGRAPHY: JEOPARDY! Including contestants in the Ultimate Tournament of Champions Biography: JEOPARDY! Since Ken Jennings' phenomenal and record-breaking series of wins last fall, JEOPARDY! has, for the past 4 months, invited back nearly 150 of the best players in the show's 21 year history for an "Ultimate Tournament of Champions". All the players originally profiled in this program were included in this competition. It will culminate in a three-day, total-point Finals match taking place May 23rd through May 25th, when Ken Jennings returns to JEOPARDY! to compete with two other finalists for a two million dollar grand prize. This special re-broadcast of "Biography: JEOPARDY!" first aired in December 2004 but contains new footage and recently updated Ultimate Tournament of Champions information. Who is Ken Jennings? The man who stands to become the winningest player in game show history. He's the unassuming software engineer from Salt Lake City with encyclopedic knowledge of everything from Rock to rocks to Roman ruins. If he keeps up at this rate, he will become the biggest money winner in the history of game shows. He's already become a mega-celebrity because of it; he's appeared on Leno, Letterman, and was ABC News' Person of the Week, with much more to come. Everyone wants to know how he does it, how he got there and how it's changed his life. But he's only the latest in a long line of JEOPARDY! big winners. In its 21 years in syndication, hosted by everyone's favorite emcee, Alex Trebek, the show has brought big money and fame to many others. This Biography will revisit many of these people whose lives were changed by their JEOPARDY! Experiences: people all JEOPARDY! fans know, like the handlebar-mustachioed New York Transit cop Frank Spangenberg; blind sportswriter Eddie Timanus; and Robin Carroll, who calls her home in Atlanta "The House that JEOPARDY!" built. And, over the years, celebrities from Kelsey Grammer to Stephen King to Jon Stewart tried their skill at the game; we'll re-visit their appearances on JEOPARDY!, too. As JEOPARDY! continues to ride the wave of Ken Jennings' phenomenal success (it's ranked first in its genre for over 1,000 weeks and reaches 12 million viewers daily) this timely Biography will look at what it takes to know a lot more than the rest of us and how that knowledge can change your life forever. |

I agree, she was very cute indeed. There was also another nice looking girl in the third round. I think her name was April. |
This week has been great so far. The FJ questions have been brutal.
