Oh... as for DA, the old guy a few years back was my favorite and I didn't like Wiest's caracter.

They didn't fire Jill Henessey. She left to pursue other projects.

I didn't mind Angie Harmon, she was a decent enough actress - I thought she was better than most people gave her credit for as an actress, and her character was very different enough from Jack to provide some of that antagonism that he and Jamie had.
ps. While Hennessey did flounder in obscurity for a while....Komodo anyone (okay, I actually sought it out because she was in it), but she's on a bit of a career high now, Crossing Jordan was one of the biggest new shows of last season. Though it'll probably get killed by CSI:Miami.

(I think) A&E loses the rights at the end of this month and will be running a marathon (day/s time/s??).
I'm sure of the marathon, but not if this is the last month.

Anyone ever figure out whether Jack actually ever slept with Claire? This has been bugging me ever since that episode where Jack's old flame gets accused of making up evidence.
Also regarding this thread; good move for the show!
Also if I had to grade the L&O ADA's, I'd put them as follows:
Claire (Jill Hennessey) A+
Jamie Ross (Carey Lowell) A
Abby Carmichael (Angie Harmon) B+
Elisabeth Rohm B-
I'd also put them in that order in the looks dept.

I never had a problem with any of the female leads in this show. However, I'm prolly not as much a L&O purist as most of you guys are. It is one of my fav shows to watch in syndication. To me the show never gets old.

Of course he slept with Claire. If you've watched every episode from their 2 seasons together, there were so many hints. There is a website somewhere devoted entirely to the evidence of the affair.
My grades would be
Jamie A+ (I love Carey Lowell and I always thought that Jamie's character was the most realistic for an ADA who works Class A felonies in Manhatten)
Claire A
Abby A-

Personally, I loved it. After watching the business lives of these characters, it was powerful to see how they were personally affected by this part of their job.
I loved McCoy at the bar talking about his cop Father, then when Briscoe shows up. I liked how Claire went back to her law professor, then eating Chinese with the Lieutenant. Benjamin Bratt's storyline was a little weak, I thought, but we did get to see a pre-Felicity/Alias Jennifer Garner which certainly made up for it.

I liked how this episode had reprecussions for the following season, especially McCoy seeking the death penalty for that drunk driving case, possibly out of vengence for Claire.
This is one of my favorite shows and I'm curious to see how Fred Thompson will fit in. I never cared for Weists' character, or her affection for an Asian-style wardrobe.

I really liked it too. Sure I love the self-contained non-serial style of Law & Order and how you only get brief snippets of the character's personal lives. However, this episode was a nice change and offered a rare in-depth glimpse at the characters.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I really liked Angie Harmon's character the best. I don't know what it was, but the strong character seemed to fit well with her role. They definitely need to get a new ADA though. Elisabeth Rohm is terrible. Looking forward to Fred Thompson too. He'll make a good addition to the show.

I stopped watching on a regular basis when Hennesey and Noth were replaced. The show has never been the same.
Watched one episode with Weist and Rohm. Not so good.
Rohm should go back Angel.

I think if Waterson or Orbach ever decided to leave the show, it'd be time to call it quits.
Jesse Martin isn't that good (much better than Rohm) but he'll do, only because Orbach is able to carry any of his limitations. And McCoy...well L&O is McCoy.

That said, I heartily approve of this move....Diane Weist just never fit the bill for this show and seemed to bring it down a notch. As for Rohm....well, she pretty much sucks as far as I'm concerned. She single handedly brought L&O down a whole bunch of notches on my shows to watch list....I only catch it occasionally now....

With the latest ADA, you not only have a bad character, but you have a bad actress portraying her.

And let's face it, most of you only judge the ADA by eye-candy anyway, and were complaining in these threads about Rohm on L&O before she even premiered.
She was great on Bull, the short-lived Wall St. series on TNT, and *excellent* on Angel as his original potential-romantic-interest... It's a shame she ever left a great part on a great show to jump into a series where she's been hated.

I certainly had an open mind about Rohm going in. I think Angie Harmon was the most attractive of the ADAs but I thought Carey Lowell and Jill Hennessey were much better actresses. I could live with Angie though - certainly her looks helped.
Rohm is like a robot out there. She seems to force her delivery. I agree that she is not a very well-written character, but even in the episode where her character was in the spotlight (the one where she almost gets disbarred) she had no emotion in her acting.
Go to the Law & Order boards where you find the die hard fans who look at more than eye candy. The vast majority agree that she is lousy.

I trust you're right when you say she'd no good in the show -- it seems like a nearly universal opinion. I'm not a fan of L&O, so I wouldn't try to defend her performances there...
But I was upset when she left Angel for the series, and have seen her do plenty of good work... So that's why I place the blame on the producers & writers...

Law & Order - 10/2
Good episode. Definitely better than most of the ones from last season. Most importantly, it was certainly the best performance to date from Elizabeth Rohm. She finally showed some emotion and ability to interact with other characters in her acting.
I loved Jack's comments about the new DA and his politics. I especially loved his comment about not receiving an invitation to this year's Strict Constructionists Ball. Great stuff.
Not a lot of screen time for the new DA but I expected that. I expect Senator Thompson to have a light load for the first half of the season while he finishes out his term. I think he will be a fantastic addition.

I was really suprised that Senator Thompson was the new DA as I hadn't heard anymore that Judy Dench (sp?) was leaving. I think he's a good actor, I vaguely remember him being in The Hunt for Red October, and will look forward to him as the new DA.
The one thing I liked about this episode is that it had an interesting antagonist. Looking at the various seasons of Law and Order, the more recent ones, while good, have nowhere near been as good as some of the older ones.
I'm sick and tired of the "Twist Ending." Been there, done that. My favorite Law and Order episodes are the ones that raise interesting questions to the tv audience. The ones that make you think. The ones that tackle controversial and relavent laws.
Lately, the whole show has been about the twist ending, and it gets a little repetitive. Especially now, with what's going on in the news and the world with the Patriot Act and enemy combatants, I want to see Law and Order address and tackle these interesting and often confusing laws.
Make me think, make me question, make me re-evaluate my beliefs and ideas.
Maybe I'm asking too much of the show, I don't know, but enough with the twist endings. I want substance over style.
