Farina was top-notch but I simply cannot stomach Rohm. She is wooden and a horrible actress. I haven't watched the show since she started so now I can't decide whether to try suffer through half the season or just check back in when she checks out...

Bebe Neuwirth joins new "Law & Order" series
Two-time Emmy winner Bebe Neuwirth is joining the cast of NBC's fourth "Law & Order" show, Zap2it.com says.
Neuwirth will play assistant district attorney Tracy Kibre in "Law & Order: Trial By Jury," which is scheduled to debut in the new year.
She joins Jerry Orbach, reprising his "Law & Order" role as Detective Lennie Briscoe, on the show.
Fred Thompson, who has played district attorney Arthur Branch on "Law & Order" since 2002, will also be a regular on the new series.
"Bebe is one of today's only true stars of stage, screen and television," "L&O" creator Dick Wolf told the website. "I have no doubt that her presence in an ensemble that already includes Jerry and Fred will help to seamlessly usher in the new series."
Neuwirth is best known for her role as uptight psychiatrist Lilith Sternin-Crane on "Cheers" for which she earned Emmys in 1990 and '91.

Good choice.
I really like that Thompson will be involved in this show.

Can someone recap what happens at the end of the first episode? I finally got around to watching it today, but the recording cut off right as he started to give his closing statement - so I missed the verdict.

Law & Order 10/20
This episode perfectly shows the strengths and weaknesses of the mothership. The first half is still a good solid cop show. Dennis Farina is meshing nicely with Jesse Martin.
The second half is where their "ripped from the headlines" plots usually fall apart. Elizabeth Rohm's lectures and Sam Waterson's histrionics have gotten old. I think this show badly needs fresh blood on the D.A. side of the equation.

did they mention the age of the buyers in GA?
some facts about handgun purchases from a dealer that they "forgot" to mention.
federal law says you have to be 21
you don't simply show an ID and walk out. there's a federal background check done, called NICS. usually takes a few minutes. also there's the ATF form 4473 that has to be filled out for each gun.

I've also heard that dealers report when multiple handguns are purchased at once, but I can't confirm that

I don't know, some of us think that gun laws in New York leave a lot to be desired...

Also the sales must be reported no later than than the close of business the day the second gun is sold.

That's been typical of the Rohmbot era. This episode was no exception. Jesse Martin was very good in this episode. I think he is one of the most underrated actors on television.
Speaking of Rohmbot, here is a pic of her replacement in a future episode. Looks like a marked improvement - I can feel so much more energy just from the pic.

I'd have to agree that the first half was one of the best original L&O's I've seen in awhile. As for the second half, I still adore Sam Waterson and I just keep counting the episodes until our least favorite lawyer bites the dust.

Law & Order, 11/10
Good episode. They took a ripped-from-a-headlines and did it pretty well. One of the rare episodes from the past seasons where the 2nd half was better than the 1st.
Best part was the focus on the law rather than the crime itself - that is where L&O always shines. The homophobic judge - oh man, is he representative of the anti-gay marriage folks?
Serena moving closer and closer to the exit door, even though she was on the right side.

I'm watching Buffy and Angel from the begining and I just got to Angel Season 1, with recurring guest star Elizabeth Rohm as Detective Kate Lockley. It's Rohmtastic!

I thought I read somewhere that Serena is leaving after this season. I'm not sure why it's showing up in the press now -- November is awfully early to be talking about someone leaving at the end of the season -- but there you go.

No talent Rohmbot is leaving at some point at midseason.

Hey - I just realized that this was not only a ripped-from-the-headlines of NJ Gov McGreevy but also CT Gov Rowland who resigned in June because he took gifts and favors from state employees and private contractors.
