I'm happing that SG-1 dispensed with that dragon fairly quickly (that as just too cheesy). Otherwise it was ok. Atlantis was better but it also made me realize how much I miss O'Neill.

SG1 = Crappy for the most part. The fantasy thing has been going on to long.
SGA = It was ok. I skipped the replicator season of SG1 so don't really get them. I don't like them as much as the vampires. O'Neill was the best part.

Haven't watched Atlantis yet, but I thought SG-1 was good. Looks like they'll be delivering on Valia's line from earlier in the season to Daneil (something along the lines of "We have plans for you."). I too was glad they got rid of the dragon quick. Was worried once that came up at the end of part 1.

SG1 = I missed something or fell asleep last week. When did they get phase shift device and did that one nerdy guy die? It was ok episode. Black did a good job.
SGA = Who doesn't like whales. I really like this one. Maybe because I think what's her face is hot beating up Ronin. I wonder when the vampires are going to come back.

Atlantis writers: More vampires, less whales. Mmmkay?
Sorry, Baron, but not everybody likes whales.
Atlantis started off interesting with the visions - have we ever seen that lady in the white robe before? Wished they had a better ending.
But I liked SG-1. Baron, if you are talking about Dr. Jackson, the nerdy guy, I think he is being held prisoner by Vala's daughter, Adria. But I don't think we saw either one of them this week - we did last week.
And how many "Priors" are there? Was the prior we saw last night the same guy who was looking all scary standing behind a big fire a couple seasons ago?

Sam the whale, eh? Whatever will Sam say when she becomes a regular?

Re: Amanda Tapping's role,
YES YES YES YES YES YES. Now if they get Shanks and Judge to replace say the tall guy and the black chick, it'll be a-ok.

What I'm wondering is how they are going to deal with the SGC once SG-1 goes off the air. The Stargate program on earth will still be there, so will people like Landry and the guy with glasses who always works the gate, for example, make the occasional guest appearance(and others from SG-1 that don't turn into Atlantis regulars) or will they just mention the SGC from time to time?
My problem with Atlantis is except for 2 or 3 of them, I don't like the characters. The tall guy is no good. Don't like Tayla or Higginson. I wish they'd kept the actress who played Weir in the SG-1 episode that introduced the character, I like her. I do like McKay, Beckett, and Sheppard. I think Jackson would be a great addition to that cast and drop some of the dead weight.

Hard to control (or even have) a discussion on SG1/SGA at the moment-- like alot of the fans I've already seen all the remaining season eps of both shows. There's plenty to talk about. But I'm not really keeping track of where SciFi channel is week by week.
I do agree with the poster earlier in the thread that said, in general, SG1 ended its final season very strong. And SGA's remaining eps are adequate, but nothing too special, save for the final episode which took the show in a brand new direction and seems to be paving the way for a big reboot.
As for the news that Tapping is joining and the nature of her role, I think the series will get a great boost in the arm.
There's another female new addition to SGA that I was really looking forward to, but her character's introduction and first scenes were sadly nothing very special. I hope they do better with the character.
-------------
Edit: Shady, I wonder the same things. Will they still be showing the Colorado underground location as often, or will that set disappear from SGA's roster of locations? It would seem very odd to show SGC occasionally without any of the recognized SGC leaders.

On the other hand, Ronin is basically a less-articulate version of Chewbacca. Teyla is aggressively boring. I don't mind Weir, but she's just... there. They keep trying to bring her and Sheppard closer together, but there's absolutely zero chemistry whatsoever between the two.

Yep, they've made Teyla's wise-warrior-girl kinda tedious. And I still get lost in Beckett's accent sometimes. Oddly enough it's McKay who I can't stand much. He's supposed to be annoying, I guess, but I find him unpleasant to even watch as a character--nothing but bragging, whining and treating others like shit. His redeeming charm is lost on me completely, and I don't think the actor has much range--even normal speech sounds like whining. I like Ronin, Weir, Sheppard, and Beckett well enough. Ronin's certainly an improvement over the bland guy he replaced from Season 1.

I used to hate McKay. I guess I'm not crazy about him, but at least he draws some kind of reaction when you are watching, even if it's just agitation. The rest other than the O'Neill clone, are just kind of there. There are better shows on TV than Stargate, but one reason I always liked SG-1 is I got to like the characters early on. Hasn't happened yet on Atlantis.

"The password is fishing."
I have to agree with a lot of the comments about Atlantis. Tayla and to a lesser extent, Ronin, just bring the show down. And the sad part is they dedicate so many shows to each of these characters. I'm not certain it's the acting skills of the people, so much as their interpretation of how they play their characters. For example, if I didn't always feel like Tayla had a chip on her shoulder I may like her more. Likewise, I'd like to see Ronin have been introduced as a mysterious badass that you didn't really know his background (although I did enjoy the ep on his home planet). He just acts so mad and headlong all the time. Yeah, and Weir is just there. I would have prefered the other actress I think, but maybe it's the writers. ??
I'm somewhat concerned that a show and concept so news as Atlantis is getting a reboot. I didn't read any spoilers, so I don't know any specifics. My biggest problem with Atlantis right now is that they "Enterprised" it. With them able to take the ship back and forth, and now even more so with the Gate Bridge, the writers have taken away and sense of danger and loneliness. What with help just around the corner and all. Same with the Wraith. At first I felt they were a real threat to be reaconed with, and now they're just some big bug problem. We'll have Beckett whip up something in a matter of 3 episodes to deal with that. =/
And what happened to the original sidekick? He just tooling around somewhere now? Was it an actor issue or was that the plan all along?

I think it is more the writers than the characters. The only character I really dislike is Teyla. Weir has grown a big stale and Beckett has been under used but those are mostly because the stories have gotten more formulaic and they abandoned the original premise (which went back to SG-1's roots) of exploring new planets while avoiding a direct confrontation with a much more powerful enemy. Now there is very little difference between the shows other than the actors/characters. Hell, even one of SG-A's main enemies is a recycled SG-a enemy.

I assume you mean replicators.
Funny how SG-A said "I think I read something about a similar problem SG-1 had." Just like TNG saying in The Naked Now "I belive Cpt Kirk's crew encountered something similar."
So that makes this recycled-recycled?

It WOULD be nice if both shows(doesn't matter with SG-1 it's going off anyway) would at least from time to time still just go exploring through the gate to planets and discover new things that way. A lot of episodes, I think even this weeks, they didn't even use the gate once.

SG1 = Wow did they hit the political button for this one. It was a ok episodes but I could have done without the politics. Dang this must been the 100th parallel universe episode.
SGA = They had that one guy from that one episodes that made every one like him back. That episode was a bore and so was this one. Could barely keep my eyes open.
