Stargate SG-1 S10/ Atlantis S3 General discussion thread
Start your Tivos, the new seasons of Stargate begin this Friday. I've spoilerized both summaries, but Atlantis' doesn't really need it. SG-1's definitely does though.
SG-1 "Flesh and Blood"
Atlantis "No Man's Land"
Personally, I'm pretty psyched because I just re-discovered Stargate this year. I watched the first season of Atlantis on DVD and that got me hooked so I watched the second season. Then I figured I might as well watch SG-1 too so I just finished watching Season 9 this weekend. So finally I'm all caught up and ready to go.

I've been watching Atlantis at midnight on NBC (Sunday nights), I miss cable. Great show.

My wife and I went down to basic cable and lost SciFi a few months ago. Fortunately, my sister in law bought a DVR for her place specifically to record SciFi Fridays for us! Good in law story!

Well....I hope Atlantis has a better year than the last one!
I thought last season of Atlantis was OK.

Awesome season start for both shows. Nice space battles with plenty of tension for both teams, and an interesting story for both to play out through the rest of the season.
Highlight for me had to be in SGA, when the Daedulus opens fire with it's railguns on the Hive ship hanger, decimating all of the darts trying to launch. Too bad the Orion (Ancient ship) got destroyed, although it'll be interesting to see what the SGA team does with their new Hive ship (although it seems a little too reminicent of SG-1 and the first Gou'ald Mother ship they captured...meaning it's probably going to be blown up somehow
)

I have question about SGA. In the flashback to last seasons finale it looked like Col. Shepard was in a 2 seat fighter with a co-pilot. at the start of this episode he in a single seater. I meant to catch t repeat to check this out at 12am but missed it.

I have to say I liked the SG-A premiere better than SG1. It seemed like a lot of SG1's repair and regroup scenes were just padding to allow the Adria storyline to develop. I enjoyed the scenes on the Ori ship, but didn't get into the rest, especially the threats from the alliance mothership. I think they could have done something a little more intimate and personal, perhaps involving Carter's precarious position in the EVA suit.
On the SG-A side of things, the one development that really caught me off guard was Weir going to Earth. I don't know what they are setting up with that, either some SG-1 cross over action, or perhaps Torri Higginson had a scheduling conflict because having her there with no immediate transport options back to Atlantis really puts her out of the action.

Great start, I am really digging the Ori as bad guys. Still, the replicators were my favorite. But the Ori sure was a breath of fresh air for this series. I am looking forward to next week.

Glad to have the shows back. I have to wonder how much mention the Wraith will get in SG-1. It always seems SG-1 events may get mention in Atlantis, but not vice-versa?

So glad both of these have returned, just finished watching them yesterday. SGA seems to have more potential suprises left for a to be continued episode. Waiting patiently.

Thought last night's episodes were great. psych evaluation conclusion was a bit cute like with willy wonka. atlantis was good too, they've been hinting about it being taken over by the military eventually so maybe it'll happen this season.

Both episodes seemed to be a little slow for me. SG-1's main story (contact disease, find unusual cause, cure disease) has been done several times before, I don't think the 'must stay awake' angle breathed any new life into it. Add to that the lack of development on the seasonal backstory and color me disappointed. It seems like Daniel's revelation of 'Atlantis' was supposed to be carried entirely by the excitement of an impending crossover, since it was otherwise just tacked on to the end. The real bright spot of the episode was Vala's psych exam story, and while I enjoyed it, even that was a little bitter sweet because I'm starting to miss the evil caustic Vala. I hope they don't water down her character too much.
The Atlantis front had a horribly boring secondary story which I can only hope is setting up some major movement on the IOA front. I'm glad they got Weir back to Atlantis, but she still seemed on the sidelines for a lot of this episode. With the renewed contact with earth her character is really being pushed into the General Hammond/Landry role of upper management middleman, which is a shame. I don't think her character works as well when limited to boardroom scenes with the SG team and issuing orders. I hope whatever the fallout of the IOA power struggle it puts her back into Season 1 mode where she can be more independent and involved with Atlantis activities. Perhaps it is just another symptom of the death of the pioneering spirit of SG-A season one.
The primary SG-A story of the human/wraith camp was OK, except we all knew what was going to happen, just like we all know they weren't destroyed at the end. Like the IOA story this seemed to be more of a setup for later developments, although I was already bored with Michael's angst at the start of the episode.
