in season 1, they said that the CID asked the FBI to check Daniels financial situation, they did, and found that he was dirty. The FBI passed the info to the balmor poolice, but they never acted upon it.

I feel bad for the people who don't have the initial patience and focus required to get into and appreciate a show like this. When I try to put on an episode from season 1 or 2 to get my family into it, I feel like I'm trying to read Shakespeare to 3rd graders.

Wow I don't remember this at all. I always assumed it had something to do with him being disbarred or something since he has a law degree and decided to become a cop. Why did the CID ask the Fed to investigate Daniels?

I recall McNulty's FBI friend telling him about it in a parking lot meeting, but that is all I recall.

Quote:
Q: Are there any plans to switch to High Definition? [Jim King]
A: No. We considered it before third season and chose not to do so. We began the show without HD and created a visual template for a story that we intend as a single, five-volume narrative. To adjust that template in the middle of the story seems arbitrary and destructive to the integrated whole that we are trying to create. Next narrative we can play with the new technology. This one needs to finish on the same terms and utilizing the same visual choices with which we began. If that means denying ourselves some of the power and glory of HD and letterbox, then so be it. It's more important to us that The Wire exist -- all five arcs -- as a unified entity.

Thanks for the link BDB. I like this question better though:
Q: Some in the group want to know if the fellatio in the Mayor's office in "Soft Eyes" was real? [Jeffrey Bufano]
A: Real in what sense? Are you asking if an actual mayor of Baltimore ever got a blowjob in his office? Historically? Post-Civil War? My answer is, I hope so. That job, such as it is, should come with certain prerogatives.
If you are asking whether the actress and the actor actually engaged in a sex act, no they did not. That would be pornography and then I would be a pornographer. Which, come to think of it, would be a cool thing to say about myself at certain parties, but no, it is untrue. They are professional thespians depicting a moment in time, and film is always artifice. You might as well ask if we actually shot Fruit dead under the expressway.
Glynn Turman If you are asking whether the penis in question actually belonged to our fictive mayor, I am instructed by the actor himself to answer in the following fashion: If you thought it large and impressive, then it most certainly is his property. If you thought it in any way insufficient to the task, then no, it was a prosthetic device quite inferior to the authentic item.

Wow. Now we are getting back into good stuff. I hadn't been terribly thrilled with this season, but this episode made it seem worthwhile.

So 'five arcs' means that next season is its last?
And it's typical government b.s. regarding the fact that the kids have to 'study for the testing' and that the government sees no need for a special class for its 'at need' kids, that may be their only way to transition into a somewhat normal adult life.

My thoughts
Great episode
Loved the bar scene. Bunk and Lester betting about the body, finding it, and then closing the tomb back up had me

Michael beating the shit out of that kid was intense
I think Mrs Wee-bay is a bigger badass than Mr

Your Daddy walked into Jessup a man, and thats how he gonna walk out!
Ahhhhh, to remember the days when my mom used to yell that at me.
Funniest thing in this show is that We-bay is the ONLY father figure any of these kids have!?!?!?

Intersting dynamic with Naymond turning away from it as Michael's getting in.
bunny got to Naymond in a way no-one, not even Prez could get to michael.
Omar taking down the Entire shipment was insane..

Yeah Michael seemed like the one who was determined not to go down that path more so than any of them. He wanted no part in Brody or Naymond's drug business and he was the only one that refused the handout from Marlow. Soon as his little brother's father returned though, he saw no other way out. Its like night and day now as hes becoming more and more ruthless.
It was funny seeing how happy Lester was at getting back the old Sergeant? who pretty much sits in his office reading magazines and lets him do whatever he wants to do. "Who is that?" "That there is the best Sergeant in the western district."

As far as Michael goes I wasnt suprised. He weighed his options as he usually did and he knew the ONLY way he was going to get rid of little brothers dad was through the "streets" so to speak. He used this to get something and he knew he would have to give up someting in return. He was always the closed one of the group, trying to handle the problems he had himself, and when he couldnt he "had" to go elsewere and he knew for sure that Marlo would take care of his "problem". He would have gone to Prez BUT the only way that his problem would go away for good is through Marlo and he knew this he wanted that man gone for good no coming back.
Naymond on the other hand didnt have it from day one and he was all talk all the time. he talks the big talk, but when it comes down to it he would step off rather then step to. He doesnt have the streets in him and the only reason he is doing what he is doing is because he mother (if you want to call her that) makes him. He is "soft" and didnt live the "hard" life like his father or for the matter of fact his friends like Michael. He has been living with fresh clothes money in his pocket and hasnt had to do anything for it up until now . Its too late for him, but Michael has lived through some dark times and has been "made" hardened by the experiences he has had.

I really like how the school kids have all gone full circle. The ingenious idea of a piss grenade has been replaced with assault on a police officer.
