I download shows onto my tablet to watch at the gym during the week when not connected to the internet. I'd be curious if you download the movie (if that's allowed) and disconnected from the internet, how long it would stay past the date.

That's weird since both are still streaming.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

I thought there was a Selena thread, but I'll just add it here...

I saw the first episode of the Selena series. The first half was a lot of re-hash scenes from the movie (which makes sense, since this is a biography). So I was about to drop it. But I eventually finished the episode and a lot of "new" material was covered in the second half of the pilot (that wasn't in the movie). It's not too bad.

The movie is my favorite biopic and I love the music.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

I got an email last night that said January 15th is when Netflix goes up to $18/month for those with the premium plan that includes 4K content. I know this was already announced, but I don't think a date was.

I know many of you only really watch Netflix for the high profile water cooler shows and can barely keep up with the other things they drop, so I get it if this kind of price may not be worth it to you and there's so much fucking streaming content on other services.

You would think the aggressive competitive environment for them now would make Netflix hesitate to raise prices, but they must have their own data that says they are leaving money on the table.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

I get Netflix through Comcast and it's going up to $4 a month (currently $3) for 4K access. It's free with your Comcast package if you don't want 4K, but $4 is still pretty reasonable. If I had to pay $18 separately, I might just live without 4K. For those wondering, you don't have to watch through the Comcast DVR app system to use it. I use my Apple TV 4K for it, which seems to provide the best 4K picture of all my devices (the others being my Roku 4k, through my Comcast DVR box, or through my LG TV directly).

Yeah, I'm getting mine through T-Mobile, so I guess I would expect whatever price difference between the 4K and regular service to be passed on as well

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

My payment cycle starts on the 18th of the month, but the HD price increase occurs on Dec 19th. Can I assume my price will still be $12.99 for this upcoming cycle? I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

edit - well I got my answer. I didn’t get charged on the 18th. I got charged on the 19th at $13.99. So it looks like that’s my new cycle date and I got one “free” day (yesterday).

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

Finished season one of the Selena series. I actually didn’t know it was a multi season series. I thought it was a limited event series. I was dreading the finale, since we all know how it ends. But it didn’t get there yet.

Season 1 was really good and focuses a lot on the brother and family dynamic, rather than just Selena herself. Good pacing on the struggles of writing music. A little bit of music in each episode.

Can’t wait for season 2. Loooove Selena.

That’s why I bought the series for $30. Well worth it and I don’t have to deal with hopscotching around streaming services.

This is why I can't be dependent on streaming services to watch my favorite tv series(or movies either).

Nor should you be. That would have been like relying on HBO to watch a movie you liked, or relying on a channel to watch an old show you like, stuff cycles out and gets replaced after a while.

You eventually have to purchase it to keep it in your collection. Or in current instances, switch streaming subscriptions.

Services like Netflix were never intended to completely replace purchases (media, or on platforms like Vudu or iTunes.)

If you don't like watching new shows or movies from Netflix, then maybe Netflix isn't for you then. Their business model now is producing mostly Netflix originals.

Yea, I’m having the same issue with Disney+ and finding something without Disney next to the title.

I subscribed for a while, then I dropped it, then game back.

It's on my top 5 list of streaming services that I would drop.

Netflix should divide into three services:
Netflix produced
Everything else
Both combined
