Any of you all have memories of 93KHJ?

I've been listening to old radio broadcasts, particularly the Boss era of 93 KJH, which are a lot of fun. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood got me into it a few years ago, and it's fun to just have an...

Re: Openings or title cards to shows you always stick around for?

Aside from the obvious ones where the intros are short and I wouldn’t skip them anyway (The Shield, Breaking Bad), the ones I enjoy are

Deadwood
Sopranos
Cheers
Mad Men
Oz

Also special...

Re: Stop Making Sense (D: Demme) - 4K restoration coming to theaters

This will have a monthly showing at one of my local theaters. Hope to catch it at least once again.

Re: What are you playing? (April 2024)

Top Spin 2K25. Good tennis games are hard to come by, and this one is fun so far.

Re: James Clavell's Shogun - Limited Series (FX) - premieres 2/27/24

To me the story was always over when Toranaga got what he wanted and Blackthorne was never leaving. The latter is more hauntingly presented in the original mini series with Orson Welles coldly...

Re: Maggie Rogers - Don't Forget Me (4/12/24)

She ended up downplaying the Pharrell moment and said he was just one set of ears, probably to not make it seem like it had a huge impact on her success. It ended up where the nature of that viral...

Re: Invincible (Amazon): animated series based on the comic by Robert Kirkman

Same here until I read your post. This season was good but the splitting and the time between seasons, yikes.

Re: The Movie Critic (D: Tarantino)

I agree. The Tarantino of today will not be the same Tarantino when he’s 70 and his experiences can change his opinion. For example he might want to make a kids movie (or more likely an R rated movie...

Re: The Movie Critic (D: Tarantino)

It would be one thing if he was correct about people being worse at directing as they age, but that’s not necessarily the case. I suspect he’s specifically thinking of someone like Howard Hawks where...

It had a run at a local theater a few weeks ago with the filmmaker.

Re: Shudder - AMC's streaming service for Horror fans

It sounds like Shudder TV is now on AMC+. I'm wondering if that means if people only want Joe Bob, then there's no need for the standalone Shudder app?

Re: American Hustle (2013) D: Russell S: Bale, Cooper, Adams, Lawrence, Renner

It's getting less remarkable now that comic book movies are a mainstream genre themselves. It'd be like saying "X amount of actors in this movie from 1962 appeared in a WWII film (or alternatively a...

Re: Cameron Talks Avatar Redux, 3D, Titanic, Abyss/True Lies Blu-ray

I saw a random online ad for an Aliens documentary and was surprised to see James Cameron is among the interviewees. Seems relevant here.

Re: High and Low (D: Spike Lee) S: Denzel Washington

Ikiru, which is in Kurosawa’s top 3, was recently re-made as Living for no reason by some random director, and nobody batted an eye. That remake will be lost to time and forgotten. This idea by...

Re: Tulsa King (Paramount+) - EP: Sheridan, Winter, S: Stallone - premieres 11/13/22

Grillo said he felt way more famous in China just for being in Wolf Warrior 2.

Re: The 96th Academy Awards --> 2024 Oscar Awards Show Discussion

Yeah that might be the no-go factor. And voice acting is basically a cheat code.

Re: The 96th Academy Awards --> 2024 Oscar Awards Show Discussion

I think I have a way to showcase all the nominees and the film history. This would be a 3 minute ish bit with audience interaction, linking all of the movies, six degree style. Some comedic linkings,...

Re: The 96th Academy Awards --> 2024 Oscar Awards Show Discussion

I know they won’t do this, but one possible solution is reduce the BP pool back to five. The expansion still feels weird years later, and every year there’s those three or four movies that have...

Re: James Clavell's Shogun - Limited Series (FX) - premieres 2/27/24

For book/mini series fans, the moment the pheasant was shown at the beginning you knew what was coming. It’s interesting to expect that and yet still have the tension/anticipation.

Cora’s parents/aunts/uncles would be the most likely candidates as easter egg party guests at best.

Re: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024, D: Tim Burton) S: Keaton, Ryder, Ortega, O'Hara

Except in the last movie, the dead characters become ghosts and remain central to the plot. Getting rid of an actor by killing them won’t exactly fly in Beetlejuice’s world.

Re: Manhunt (Apple TV+) - John Wilkes Booth / Lincoln limited series - premieres 3/15/24

The book was great, I read it when David Simon was attached. Patton Oswald sticks out. Matt Walsh blends in to the era, except the guy he’s playing was like 32.
