The Odyssey (2026, D: Nolan)
EXCLUSIVE: After sweeping the Oscars with his smash hit Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan looks to be returning to the studio that helped him win those Oscars, and he’s bringing along one of his A-list stars to lead the ensemble.
Sources tell Deadline that Nolan is returning to Universal for his next film, with plans for an Imax release on July 17, 2026, and that Matt Damon is in talks to star. The date falls in line with a number of Nolan films that have had similar release dates in the past.
Universal had no comment.
As with any Nolan project, plot details are being kept as secret as anything in this town, though sources say the film is expected to shoot in early 2025.
While some believed Nolan might have taken this package to market, Universal always seemed like the logical landing spot given the success of Oppenheimer, which grossed $328.9 million at the domestic box office and $975.6 million worldwide and brought in a number of accolades as well.
As for Damon, this will mark the third time he and Nolan have worked together, with Damon also appearing in 2014’s Interstellar before Oppenheimer, where Nolan has a knack for re-partnering with talent on projects; Damon now joins the likes of Christian Bale and Murphy as actors he have worked with Nolan on at least three occasions.
With the project now a full go, expect it to attract plenty of A-list talent to help Damon guide another all-star ensemble.

I haven’t liked anything of his since the Batman films but I am still interested to see what this is all about.

Nolan gets a free pass in my book. Everything he does is pretty exceptional... Dunkirk being the one flick that I found pretty boring, but well made and visually excellent.

I mean, it should win but you just never know with Oscar voters.

I recall Oppenheimer also started out as an Untitled movie. Not sure when the story and name came about.

I've liked the majority of Nolan's movies. While there's next to nothing available about this one, I do like both of the actors so far attached.

This is one of at least 5 wildly different story rumors out there. I would not put money on this one.
The plot on Production Weekly has "About a pair of aerial helicopter cops, with an older mentor and a younger lead." Which would go with the rumor that is a film inspired by Blue Thunder.
