I HATE METROID PRIME SCAN LOGS.
I’m here at the end of the game. One more item to get which know the location of. And three scans left….except I had to look up the one biology one I was missing. Carver’s damn spores. I got Carvex and his stupid vines but missed the stupid spore. Same thing happened to me in Metroid Prime. Didn’t scan some door thing for a boss. I’m VERY thorough with scanning too. But I can’t stand this game design.

Having nothing left to do for story advancement being grinding green crystals really kills the momentum.

Just finished the game. 100% items 98% scans
so frustrating.
Unlike MP remaster I don’t think I’m going to jump right back in on Hard mode. I might take a bit of a break. If I do come back to it.
The end boss..and a few of the other bosses were frustrating not because of the difficulty but because I felt like I was fighting the controls. The last few bosses the lock on aiming was useless and trying to free aim or switch targets was difficult. Especially in the middle of a heated battle. I tried motion controls as well as regular controls. I didn’t try the mouse mode though. I wonder if playing with the joycon would make it easier for either motion or mouse mode.
Overall I thought it was a good game. Definitely worthy of the Metroid Prime name. It’s definitely Nintendo’s most gorgeous game to date. The art direction and the raw graphical presentation was absolutely stellar. Some of the best set pieces of the franchise to date.
However, the end game fell kind of flat with the collection of green crystals grinding the whole game to a halt. Luckily I’m pretty thorough so I had been busting those crystals throughout the whole game. And get those tiny specs too because while you don’t necessarily need to get every single one to beat the game. If you’re a completionist like me and want to unlock every one you do have to get every last one.
Story wise I think it held up pretty well right up until the end. They did an excellent job with establishing the lore and history of Viewros but the ending just wasn’t satisfying.

Finished it last night as well and agree with basically all your comments.
It’s like the writers decided to take an early retirement when it came time to write an ending for the game. 2025 equivalent of a “Game Over, Thanks For Playing” screen. And then un-skippable credits before you can Save and start Hard Mode. I’ll probably skip a 2nd playthrough and resell the game. Glad I bought it physical.

Just reached the area containing the final key, and have explored maybe half of it, and I think I may be done with this one. I've seen just about all I need to.
I liked it well enough, but having just played the Prime Remake earlier this year, this feels especially same-y. And I really wish these biomes weren't disconnected by the desert section. It breaks up the sense of exploration way too much.

Sadly, you’re not missing much if you stop there. The game basically has no ending. Final boss fight is kinda cool, I guess. As Tanman mentioned, most bosses are plagued by having to manually aim at legs/eyes while wildly moving the camera around. Lock-on aiming doesn’t apply where it’s needed.

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (12/4/2025; Switch, Switch 2)
I could not agree more. It made me mad last night as I was trying to beat it. Spent 2hrs going back trying to find which crystals I missed. Took the game from it being the second favorite in the series to the last. All I wanted was to complete it so I could go play Super Metroid. Even calling this a Metroid game was a stretch as we saw a Metroid in the beginning of the game and that was it. Every boss had a Metroid attached to it, but you had to scan the boss to know that. Pretty disappointed all around

But the visuals were absolutely amazing. And the story telling through the lore was absolutely top notch. I loved the level design and attention to detail in each area. Each area really felt like a lived in place. Chrono tower was genuinely gorgeous with even something as simple as the formation of the bridges being a sight to behold.
That's why it's especially disappointing that the game ended the way it did. Maybe they'll pick it up with a new trilogy? Weren't they talking about that anyways? But still, you need some definitive endings for these installations that take decades to produce.

You're so close to the end (depending on if you've been collecting green crystals along the way or not). Just finish it. You're maybe 2 hours away.

I’m enjoying it but the infrequent auto saves means I have had to repeat some sections. Also unclear if I’m supposed to have the grapple gun before I fight the dud with the shield.
And the morph ball energy thing. Go into morph ball mode. Hold down the button to charge the ball. Get out of morph ball mode. Get into psychic mode. Hold down the button to hold the ball and aim at where you need. Could they throw some more steps in there?

Lol Yeah the psychic bomb does seem a bit ridiculous. I think that’s why they only put it in there a handful of times.

Another example of how much easier and more intuitive the control scheme is when you map visor to GL and morph to GR on the Pro Controller.
No control system will ever rival the complexity of Donkey Kong Country Returns on the Wii, where you had to drum with the Wiimote to launch a missile or something.

I stopped playing as well. Prime has never been my thing, I prefer the 2D Metroid but I wanted to give this one a chance.
Interesting statement here:
In a new interview with Famitsu, a Nintendo spokesperson (a name isn't given, it's worth noting) gives the following assessment of Metroid Prime 4's development period (thanks to Nintendo Everything for the translation):
Interesting statement here:
In a new interview with Famitsu, a Nintendo spokesperson (a name isn't given, it's worth noting) gives the following assessment of Metroid Prime 4's development period (thanks to Nintendo Everything for the translation):
“At the start of the project, perhaps due to the influence of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, we saw a lot of comments on the internet saying ‘we want to play an open-world Metroid’. However, Metroid’s core element of ‘increasing the amount of explorable areas by unlocking powers’ is not very compatible with the ‘freedom to go anywhere from the beginning’ of open worlds. Thus we thought to design a limited area that could be freely explored, and have that be a hub that could connect to other areas. Then we thought that if one could move around on the bike in a satisfying way in that area, it could be a segment that mitigates the tension from exploration, and paces the whole game.
In the end, the game took much longer than expected to finish, and we realized that players’ impressions toward open-world games had changed. That being said, development had already been reset once before (when we started again from scratch with Retro Studios) so backtracking development again was out of the question, and we resolved to move forward with our original vision. During this time, shooting games and action games went through evolutions, with an increase in game speed in particular, but taking in those changes would have made it difficult to construct the tempo of an adventure game, so we actively chose to not take them into account. Therefore, I think this game is pretty much divorced from the changing of times.”

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (12/4/2025; Switch, Switch 2)
That seems like a lazy explanation. Open world games from that time were usually overstuffed with things to do, so the state of how things were is not a great excuse for a large area with little more to do than run over crystals on a motorcycle. Despite that, the desert didn’t bother me that much, mainly because it could be crossed relatively quickly.
I played this up to the final boss and quit. I only fought him once, so it wasn’t a rage quit, just a yeah-I-was-already-kind-of-over-this-and-don’t-really-care-enough-to-figure-this-guy-out-for-some-final-dialogue-with-the-soldier-bozos quit. Which isn’t to say I disliked the game. I enjoyed the different biomes well enough and mostly had fun playing, but it felt a bit middling given the long development time.

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (12/4/2025; Switch, Switch 2)
A bunch of quitters in this thread.
Apparently the open world design was already thought up and worked on when it was at Bandai/Namco and Nintendo didn’t let Retro change it once they took over because so much work had been done on it. Kind of accounts for the disjointed play styles and narratives. Seems like all the extra characters were left over from early in development as well.
I hope this means that if Retro goes forward with the new trilogy (I really hope they do) that they will have a more consistent narrative and play style.
Open world was fine (really more connecting world) since it was something different and it wasn’t really all that big to begin with. Which I liked. I’m glad it wasn’t utilized more. It was already annoying enough with the asinine green crystals.

I’m getting into the full swing of things and have the mines next. It seems like everything is way more obvious than usual (as opposed to Dread), even without the constant hints. Like there’s only one way to go the first time around, then one door locked to return to for future upgrades.
Others have said it before but trekking back to the home base is a pain, and the multiple loading screens break the flow of going from place to place.
And none of the enemies have been anywhere near as interesting or threatening as the EMMI. That was some straight up Resident Evil style atmosphere with how they hunt you down.
