Re: Game of Thrones (S8E06) -- 79 minute Series Finale -- “The Iron Throne” -- 5/19/19

Soap opera level garbage. Obvious trope on obvious trope. Happily ever after moments that were seemingly created by someone who didn't watch any of the previous seasons. Mainly just boring. This...

Re: Game of Thrones (S8E05) -- 78 minute episode -- “The Bells” -- 5/12/19

I have mixed feelings about this episode:

- They have been setting up for a while that Daenerys has a vindictive streak, has been isolated from those who made her better and had reached a breaking...

Re: Game of Thrones (S8E03) -- 82 minute episode -- “The Long Night” -- 4/28/19

I largely agree with this article. Even setting aside relatively minor logical inconsistencies and the "tood dark" complaints, the episode arguably betrays the main idea that made GoT interesting....

Re: Game of Thrones (S8E03) -- 82 minute episode -- “The Long Night” -- 4/28/19

Regardless of the existence of fantastical elements, the show has always had strong internal logic to the way the world of GoT works: the limitations of people, the limitations of dragons, the...

Re: Game of Thrones (S8E03) -- 82 minute episode -- “The Long Night” -- 4/28/19

There's sneaking up on your unsuspecting brother than there's somehow being able to get through a ring of dozens (hundreds?) of zombies, slipping by a dozen of the NK's generals and somehow leaping...

Re: Game of Thrones (S8E03) -- 82 minute episode -- “The Long Night” -- 4/28/19

This show has become more Avengers than Game of Thrones. Spectacle and flash trump real drama. We've entered a consequence-free zone of plot armor, Deus ex Machina, cheap kung fu "this guy attack......

Re: The Toys That Made Us -- Netflix docuseries -- 12/22/17

I've only watched the Star Wars and GI Joe episodes as that stuff is right in my wheelhouse. I thought they were both great documentaries: tightly written, well directed, funny and informative. These...

Re: Game of Thrones (S7E06) -- "Beyond the Wall" -- 8/20/17 -- 75 min episode

I have despised the last two episodes of this show.

What the show used to be about:
1. People acting in understandable and reasonable ways that seem right at the time who still get in trouble...

Re: The Beatles: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 50th Anniversary Reissue 5/26

This thing sounds great to me. It's definitely a more "modern" mix, it sounds extremely punchy and detailed. In particular, the bottom end is extremely deep and clean. I think they did a good job.

Re: Logan (Mangold, 2017) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Watched this last night. I don't think I've ever seen such a relentlessly grim mainstream movie. Everything in this movie is horrible, broken and rotting. America is a jingoistic hellscape of awful...

Re: The Magicians (SyFy) -- Season 1 Thread -- From the EP of Supernatural -- 1/25/16

I've read all the books and have now watched the first seven episodes. I really want to like this as I liked the books but the show drives me a bit crazy.

To begin with, there's too much fan...

Re: Allman Brothers drummer fatally shot himself in front of wife

What a heartbreaking story. If you look into the past few years, he's really been struggling with financial issues and deals gone wrong. He had several kids and grand kids that he left behind

Re: Spoon -- "Hot Thoughts" -- March 17, 2017

As Spoon refuses to make a bad album, I'm looking forward to this one.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Edwards, 2016) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Who would have thought that we'd have a Star Wars movie where in the first ten minutes a Rebellion spy is forced to regretfully kill an innocent and sympathetic man to ensure his own survival? Who...

Re: PRINCE: "Prince 4Ever" 2CD Greatest Hits / "Purple Rain" 2CD Deluxe

Few people buy CDs any more. That fact combined with the fact that there are already other compilations out there of this material make this is pointless for most people. Hits / B-Sides is inarguably...

Re: Artists who were great with their group, but disappointing as solo acts

I'm not sure I agree. The Smith's debut is a classic, as is The Queen is Dead. However, both Meat is Murder and Strangeways, Here We Come are spotty. The Smiths did produce lots of great non-album...

Re: Everybody Wants Some (2016, D: Linklater) - "spiritual sequel" to Dazed & Confuse

I recently watched it and really enjoyed it. Like most Linklater movies, this isn't a plot-driven movie. This is a movie about a specific time, a specific place and a specific group of people. It...

Re: Spoon -- "They Want My Soul" -- 8/05/2014

Thought I'd bump this thread because two years later I'm still loving this album. This album has stuck with me more than any other Spoon album. The songs are great, the lyrics are great, Britt's...

Re: METALLICA: "HARDWIRED…TO SELF-DESTRUCT" 2CD/3CD Deluxe 11/18/16

Agreed. And like you, I don't really blame the band. Obviously, they exploded in popularity post Cliff so they must be doing something right.

However, they have never gotten close to the energy...

Google Music is awesome, particularly if you're on Android as the integration works well. I really like the Google Music app, I've been using the service for a while and the app has been honed and...

Re: Comedy Bang Bang (On IFC) Scott Aukerman and Reggie Watts

The podcast can be just about the funniest thing I've heard. I particularly like Victor and Tiny as well as pretty much anything PFT does.

I don't think anyone watched the show. It's a slow burn...
