I... can't disagree.

I've always thought that the individual MCU movies weren't particularly good -- they were, for the most part, pretty average -- but I admired that they actually pulled off a shared universe.

But post-Endgame, they feel a lot of like how Disney/Lucasfilm are handling Star Wars -- just churning out a bunch of half-assed, poorly developed content. The Disney+ Marvel series have, for the most part, been forgettable, and the movies seem to be uninspired and don't seem to serve much purpose in the greater MCU, which is itself in a rebuilding phase after losing RDJ, Pine, and Boseman.

With Scream VI, 65 out this week along with Creed III having a great 1st week and likely getting some new and repeat eyes, this is going to sink even further. Hard to believe a big "event" MCU movie is having such a collapse after a pretty good 1st week.

I agree. While superheroes are becoming fairly commonplace, the reactions from family and friends is either 100% immediate acceptance or completely ignored.

My son is home for spring break so I took him to see the movie last night. The second viewing for me was even better - I really enjoyed what they did with MODOK. I love when these movies lean into how ridiculous comics can be (and as a comics fan myself, I love seeing them take the piss out of those fans who seem to think every comic decision is sacrosanct and mustn't be touched. Sometimes things are just REALLY silly.) I also appreciated how threatening Kang really is and I look forward to seeing him and the Council as the big bads going forward. Especially excited for Secret Wars, as that's my favorite Marvel comic story of all time.

Oof. This thing will probably tap out at $470 million worldwide, which would place it somewhere between the first Thor and Ant-Man movies in unadjusted dollars. And that's at twice the budget of those films.

Which makes it a big money-loser for Disney/Marvel; it won't out-gross the last Ant-Man film domestically and will be the lowest grossing of the franchise worldwide,

Definitely an inauspicious beginning to Phase V. I don't think The Marvels is going to do much better (if at all) and Guardians Vol. 3 will do well but it's a swan song.
