That's Sam Elliott. Patrick is the one on the right.

I'm sure it was Sam's Farrah Fawcett hairdo that threw you off.

What a crock of shit.

Seriously, look for information outside of YouTube videos and Reddit subforums that already adhere to your preconceived notions. Talk to a real person (we don't count here, DVDtalk is also a weird bubble). You'll discover that reality isn't as threatened as you believe.

What does that mean? Like have the original Ghostbusters make appearances in the film as their original characters?

I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks it would have better as a true sequel with 1 or more of the women being daughters and maybe students of the old crew. Do a changing of the guard story instead of a reboot. That would have made it inclusive to new and old.

Re: Ghostbusters (2016, D: Feig)

I don't necessarily think inclusivity was an issue in regards to continuing the story of the original.

I think that the original was very unique in what it did, and that struck a chord with people.

The new one was very conventional and didn't feel too drastically different from a lot of other big budget CGI films.

I think a continuation story would have meant a lot to the fandom. I don't understand why they didn't go this route. It would have taken a five minute opener.

Because they're fucking idiots. They literally are. They lack the capacity to think of what you just suggested. And when I say "they" I mean the whole committee. Because that's what fucks up movies like this. Filmmaking by committee.

I don't know if having daughters/nieces/etc. to the original cast would have been terribly great (not the most original idea, IMO) but a continuation of the original series where many teams of Ghostbusters around the world have been created and the original four are revered and treated like pioneers/legends of the trade could have been easily written into a new Ghostbusters movie with pretty much the same limited screen time for the original actors (as the original four) without shitting on the fans of the original.

Sounds more like he was unhappy with the result and that their (his) ideas were pushed to the side. He came up with the entire thing, it's easy to vent about the way it got handled.

All the shit must have missed me. It's almost like only specific fans had an issue.

I think the issue with the originals is Murray seemed dead-set against playing Venkman again and Ramis was dead by that point. An appearance by the originals would have been the equivalent of the birthday party at the beginning of Ghostbusters 2.

Re: Ghostbusters (2016, D: Feig)

I said it from the beginning, achieving the monumental task of reuniting (almost) the entire cast after so many years of will they won't they, only to play cameo's was a brain dead idea. I mean, imagine if they did that with The Force Awakens. After 30 years Harrison, Mark and Carrie are coming back, but they're gonna be cameo's as different characters. People would have lost their minds. Seeing Bill Murray in a new Ghostbusters movie, but not as Peter Venkman was such a huge buzzkill.

Although in the end I guess it's a bit of a moot point because with Katie Dippold as a 0-3 screenwriter and the studio having to basically beg Paul Feig to do it because of his total indifference to the project, the movie was basically doomed from the get go.

For me, a straight sequel to the first 2 was the only way to go and even then it was a huge risk of being a failure because unlike the Star Wars franchise under Disney, they never really had the right people behind it assuring it was a quality product while it was in developmental hell all those years. I dunno, I think a new Ghostbusters movie should have probably died with Harold Ramis.
