Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Sony’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage soared to the top of the domestic box office on Friday, earning a robust $37.25 million. That includes $11.6 million in Thursday previews, compared with $8 million in previews and a $32.5 million opening day on this same weekend in 2018 for Venom. So, yes, despite obvious pandemic-specific variables and concerns, Venom 2 surpassed the unadjusted opening day of its predecessor. So, we could see a scenario where the film opens above the $80 million debut (a record for October at the time) of its predecessor.

Here are the actuals for 10/22/21 - 10/24/21, I was curious if Dune would correct down or not. Estimates were under by about $1m.

Not that anyone gives a shit but it looks like Warner has resumed reporting daily grosses instead of just weekend + weekly.

eternal looks like it will get $71 this weekend. It will potentially end its run in the 170's to 180's. Spider-Man comes out in December. It will most likely end up the top five grossing domestic films of 2021 will all be Marvel properties.

No Time to Die is now the 3rd highest grossing Craig Bond movie of all-time. A pretty solid run after a month of release.

"Hollywood" movie. Two Chinese flicks are #1 and #2 apparently.

Ghostbusters did a little better than expected, Dune will cross $100m in the next week, Eternals is dropping pretty quickly but should get a nice boost next weekend.

So Afterlife made less in its opening weekend than the 2016 movie's opening?

Yes, but... 2016 opened with $46mil, cost $144, and didn't have a pandemic. 2021 opened with $44mil, cost $75mil, and released during a pandemic.

You want 3D everything. You're not exactly in touch with the pulse of consumers.

who said anything about 3D?? i wouldn't even bite if these were easily accessible in 3D. even in 3D, both these movies would still suck imo.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

$50m Thursday for Spider-man, $100m expected for Friday.

https://deadline.com/2021/12/spider-...ly-1234898486/

That's better than Infinity War and Last Jedi.

Estimating upwards of a $200m gross this weekend, that puts it at almost out grossing every full run this year in one weekend.
