Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
The thing about box office is that numbers and math are real...and taking it out on a fellow member for pointing out numbers that you don't like is not cool. (and shame on those who liked this post) Turns out my 350m prediction was correct - and it might not even get there, I was being too generous!

Pretty sure that post wasn't about math or numbers

Backrooms crushed it with $81m, Mando crashed and burned with that 68% drop, and Obsession is the first major movie to sustain a 10% bounce in weekend 3 since ET. Michael is at his happy place with the 11s. Breadwinner didn't quite break out.

Are we sure about that? I've always thought these numbers were estimates provided by the studios. I've learned to never trust studio-stated budgets or grosses.
In the old days, Variety used to post box office results for the opening weekend, but only for the New York City showcase theaters. And they got those figures from the theater owners not the studios, IIRC. So we had a better sense of how movies were doing--at least in NYC. I forget when all that changed.

Wow, that's insane for Backrooms (and Obsession's increase).

Do these results mean Friday and Saturday? Also Thursday? Or all week? It's Sunday and here are the results and I'm confused.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
I've heard more about The Breadwinner in this thread than I have from literally anything else anywhere. So maybe there's a shot?
And at 69% for what used to be one of the strongest IPs in existence, that's an really unhealthy drop for Mandalorian. A bigger drop than Solo from an already anemic opening; meanwhile the younger, "new generation of fans" flocked to Backrooms and Obsession. The Star Wars franchise desperately needs new blood. Simply being "OK" or "decent" is not enough anymore.
Masters of the Universe is coming out next Friday; I can't see that doing much better but it's gunning for the same audience (mostly). I'm not rooting for anything to fail but at the very least it's encouraging to see new, younger filmmakers with more original ideas finding success over 40-50 year old bygones.
