Man, Venom managed to WELL exceed expectations. I thought the negative word of mouth would result in a sizeable hit.

Wondering if First Man is getting hurt by A Star is Born's strong second weekend. IIRC, early projects were something like $25-30M OW.

That's a great hold for A Star is Born. And damn, I thought Venom would drop like a rock but its drop wasn't too bad at all.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Yeah, I was quite surprised by Venom's second weekend. And it does look like A Star is Born might've hurt First Man. Seems like that movie should've come out in November.

Christopher Robin is creeping it's way up to $100 million, but kind of stalled out last weekend and it's at $98.6 million now. Wonder what tricks Disney will pull to get it there?

Experts are predicting an opening weekend of around $70M for Halloween, which would be phenomenal. Looks like a perfect storm of factors are contributing to this.

I haven't seen any trailers for HALLOWEEN, but I've seen an incredible amount of press devoted to it. Curtis is all over the place. Whoever's directing that publicity campaign seems to know what they're doing. And The New York Times, which didn't even review the first HALLOWEEN, put the review for this one on the front page of its Weekend Arts section today. It was a mixed review, but still...primacy of place.

Allegedly she has the same deal that Ethan Hawke got for Purge and that other blumhouse flick he did: minimal upfront pay but a decent chunk of profits (he made something like $10m when the dust settled. Not bad for a modestly successful flick).

Purge cost $3m and made just under $90m worldwide. JLC just had a very good weekend.

Now that Venom has been a modest hit, expect Sony to go all-in on expanding the Spideyverse movies.

Astounding PTA for Suspiria. And Halloween, even with a 58% decline, holding well. Another winner from Blumhouse and assures there will be a sequel.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Early Reads for this weekend:

1. Bohemian Rhapsody - $48.9m
2. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms - $20M-$23M
3. Nobody's Fool - $14M-$16M
4. A Star Is Born - $9.5m (-32%)
5. Halloween - $9m (-71%)

Big fall for Halloween, but it is tough to sell a movie called Halloween after Halloween. Plus it pulled $5.5m+ on Halloween. Halloween had a less severe second weekend drop as well because of Halloween.
