I'm making a poll thread for that now, if I can figure out how to lock out a poll after 5 days. Figure it has been pretty heavily discussed, why not.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

So Deadpool is internationally now the highest grossing R-rated movie ever.
http://www.theverge.com/2016/3/28/11...-office-record

Meanwhile, on Tuesday Deadpool quietly passed American Sniper as the #2 all time R Rated film domestically (pre-inflation).

1 The Passion of the Christ $370,782,930
2 Deadpool $350,575,679
3 American Sniper $350,126,372

They would need another $20.3 million or so to pass Christ. Unless they do some sort of gimmicky re-release thing or marketing push, it's going to be tough to pull off. When Force Awakens finally got to the point where it put out a sub-$5 mil weekend, it only managed to scrape together another $12 mil after that.

Yeah, probably won't beat Passion but that is still a helluva run.

Yeah, it's kind of crazy that it has 6th highest gross of all the Marvel property movies considering how huge those have been. (Outgrossed Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man 1 and 2, both Captain America movies, all the X-men Movies, etc; )

It's the highest grossing X-Men film now. No one at Fox in their wildest imagination figured on that happening.

Yes. It's the same universe. If you want to be pedantic, he's a New Mutants/X-Force character but that's part of the X-Men Universe.

My random comments:

The mixed WOM for BvS: Dawn of Justice proved a little too much for the title, but it should still do well enough as the launching pad for the franchise.

Zootopia is just absolutely killing it, a < 20% drop is stellar.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 held up relatively well for a rom com. It won't hit the highs of the original, but it's doing pretty respectably.

God's Not Dead 2 - actually didn't do as well as I expected considering its target audience tend to pack the houses. Releasing it so close to Miracles from Heaven probably hurt it. Melissa Joan Hart is the new Kevin Sorbo.

10 Cloverfield Lane - Excellent hold, I was a little worried this would drop like a rock when word got out that it wasn't a traditional spin-off/sequel.

I Saw the Light - Went wide this week, but I haven't seen a single ad for it, just a billboard (which surprised me, since we never get movie billboards here).

Midnight Special goes wide next week, hope it does well.

I saw almost as many commercials for the Jungle Book as I did for Batman v Superman. I wonder how much they spent on promotion for Jungle Book?

The only difference was that we saw the ads and promos for JB within a month of release. Not a year before, with everything branded with DC garbage, from cereal to toilet paper.

True. I don't recall seeing as many ads for the Jungle Book, and I certainly haven't walked down the grocery store aisles and seen Jungle Book cereal, Jungle Book fruit roll-ups, Jungle Book Doritos, or Jungle Book Dr. Pepper cans.

What is even funnier is that WB has their version of Jungle Book coming out in a few years and it probably won't make anywhere near this.

Damn, seriously? Well maybe their Tarzan will fare better than their version of JB. That Tarzan trailer didn't look bad - but not great either.

I also didn't see a ton of advertising for it, but it probably has a lot to do with the sites you visit and channels you watch.

But then estimates are likely to be off slightly regardless, since Disney owns ABC, Freeform, Disney Channel, ESPN, etc; and probably gets to throw advertising on those channels for a heavily reduced rate.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

I've seen multiple sites report the $103 million, so I'm guessing that's pretty much the confirmed total. Good for them (and Jon Favreau). It's nice to see a movie like that get such acclaim and box office $$. I seriously was on the fence until I read a couple of reviews and then what people were saying on the reviews thread about it. I'll be seeing it next weekend.

The finals will be released this afternoon, the estimate is currently at $103,567,000 ($291m worldwide)

I see budget estimates are out now as well, placing it around $175m.
