Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
Pretty good for a spin-off and that stars aren't the box office draw they once were (which is why the first one adjusts to something like $62M OW, have to think it'd be in the $40M range today IMO.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
Ocean's 8 pulled $4m in previews last night, current tracking through Friday has it opening at $40m - $42m -- a new high for the Ocean's franchise (unadjusted)
Solo looks to be landing at #2 with $15m, down 49%.
Hereditary is poised to take 3rd place with $13.5m, but after its strong tracking may end up in 2nd ahead of Solo.
Hotel Artemis is bombing with $271k in previews and $1.25m for Friday -- a $3.5m opening for the weekend is likely (I think it'll go higher but still pretty horribly).

Solo will be lucky to make it to $200 million at this rate with Incredibles 2 out next week, than Jurassic World 2 after that.

Not really, it's just bombing hard. Considering what the Jackass franchise used to pull, it's interesting to see where it kind of lands now - even very far removed. But it was a weird premise that looked oddly executed with a lead that I more or less feel sorry for now.

And...done, Deadline reports that it is now only the 4th film to have crossed this threshold. It is still up for debate if it will beat Black Panther's domestic gross (which is less than $600,000 from hitting $700 million) but wow...it is basically James Cameron films, Star Wars, and Marvel Universe films that are only part of this elite club.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
Disney/Pixar’s Incredibles 2 took off last night with $18.5M, easily sinking the previous $9.2M Thursday night record for an animated movie held by Finding Dory. That Pixar sequel also holds the opening record for an animated title with $135M, $54.7M of that scored on Friday, and Incredibles 2 is now certain to beat that. On the high-end of projections, industry sources expected this pic to hit $150M, while lowball estimates were in the mid $130M range.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
Incredibles 2 appears to be headed for an opening above $174m:
https://deadline.com/2018/06/incredi...ce-1202411262/
#1. The Incredibles 2 - $174m
#2. Ocean's 8 - $21.6m (-48%)
#3. Tag - $14m
#4/5 - Solo (-41%, $192m)/Deadpool 2 (-35%, $295m) - $9.2m
#6 - Superfly - $7m
In terms of opening weekends, Disney is responsible for 9 of the top 10. #4 - Jurassic World ($208.8m) is the only exception.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
Obviously this is Disney’s biggest year ever at the BO. The year is only half over and they are creeping towards 2 billion domestic. They still have 5 major releases left in the year.
And no sign of slowing down next year either. Just a matter of time where that figure is the norm annually.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
So would you look at this--after weeks of major drops and the DVD release, all of the sudden A Wrinkle in Time moved up to the #9 position for Friday, earning a solid $750,000 on Friday. If that holds, it will easily clear $100 million by Sunday. (It actually had a healthy jump on Thursday compared to the previous days, but only up to $45,000 or so.)
I'm guessing it was added as a double feature with Incredibles 2 in select markets and drive-ins, proving there are still tricks to be played.

Paired up with Infinity War, Incredibles 2 and/or Black Panther in certain markets.

Nice googling! Forbes even had an article pop up suggesting that Disney pair up Wrinkle and Panther--glad to see some of us aren't the only ones interested in such a pointless thing:

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread
So it looks like Incredibles 2 came in with $180 million shattering Finding Dory's previous record of $135 million.
I have to hand it to Disney. I'm not sure if it was on purpose or not but they sure timed this sequel perfectly. I cannot for the life of me understand why they didn't make this sooner. It was really the only Pixar film that was begging for a sequel but instead they produced a bunch of sequels that no one really asked for. But the timing is just perfect with superhero hype at an all time high, paired with the fact that there hasn't been a cartoon in the theaters for families to go to for quite some time. It's like this was the antithesis of Solo.
