Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Could all the MTV Movie Award wins for Black Panther help push it over $700M this week?

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

It only made about $12K yesterday, so left to its own devices, I don't think it would, even though it's only about $400K short. But if Disney decides they want it to hit $700M, it will, since we've seen they have the power to get A Wrinkle in Time a couple million in a weekend after it's home video release (it officially crossed $100M yesterday). A few double features here and there and Black Panther is at $700M.

What would really be impressive is if they somehow get Avengers to $700M domestic. It's at basically $665M right now.

I wouldn't think they're below having people buy a bunch of tickets on corporate cards just to reach the number.

Incredibles 2 made $27m on Tuesday, the 4th biggest non-opening Tuesday to date, behind #1. The Force Awakens, #2. The Force Awakens and #3. The Last Jedi.

(6th if you count openings as well, #2. Amazing Spider-man and #4. Transformers, both on July 3rd)

Granted the kids are out of school now which helps with the numbers but yes, this great film is just making money hand over fist.

I know it's made more than BP globally, but who would have thought a year ago that BP would outgross Avengers: IW? It'll likely be the top domestic grossing movie of the year too.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

So Deadline has updated their box office article and Incredibles 2 is looking at low 80s for the second weekend (still a boffo second weekend) and JW: FK does indeed look like it will make $135 million...even if this number is off by 5-15 million I do not see it going past $155-60 million.

I wonder if Universal should have waited to release next weekend because it seems that the studios left it wide open before the floodgates open starting on June 29.

Some places have its production budget listed as high as $185m, but it's about inline with Jurassic World's $150m with some higher pay checks for talent.

Didn’t think DP2 had it in it. Glad I was wrong. Liked this one more than 1st and I loved 1st. Can’t wait for another with this cast...

Monday Numbers:

Jurassic World:FK - $14.725m
Incredibles 2 - $10.4m

Incredibles 2 is haping up to have some killer legs with the kids out of school. Jurassic World had an "OK" first monday for a $148m opening.

Also worth noting, Solo has crossed $200m domestic.

It's currently #17 on the all time domestic list. Just a little over $90 million more and it can crack the top 10 list.

Less than $184K to go for the Black Panther. It's only in 80 theaters now. Wonder if it will hit the number. I suppose they could bring it back for a limited weekend in 3D if they wanted to get that last boost.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

I really thought Ant-Man and the Wasp would exceed expectations, instead it was a little bit lower then the high estimate which is surprising to me. Especially since most I know seemed to really enjoy it.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

I do remember some thinking it could get $90M+, probably based on the glowing reviews. Although disappointing, especially if you play the HSX market , it's still something like a 40-45% increase in OW over the first and not bad for a C-list superhero.

Also noticed Sicario 2 took quite the tumble.

It did and will in a week or so even when adjusted for ticket inflation (Finding Nemo - $516M, Finding Dory - $514M). Could be short-lived, though, with Toy Story 4 opening next year.
