Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Boxofficemojo is estimating 115-117 million now. It looks like a good movie. I plan to go see it if I ever receive my Moviepass card I order almost a month ago.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

It should hold up great next weekend since almost all movie theaters in Florida were closed on Sunday (and Monday)

I think that this may have overtaken Deadpool if Irma was not laying waste to the state of FL this past weekend. I hope to see this soon, but will probably end up seeing it on home video/cable.

Should be interesting to see how it does next weekend. With the reviews, could have a good hold (thinking 52% drop).

Doubtful. It probably would of only added about 5% to the total.

That'd put it at $130m, Deadpool did $132.4m, it would been close. Not to mention lessened theater attendance for Georgia as well.

Don't forget that the areas affected by Harvey are probably not yet going back to the movies, given how preoccupied they must be with cleanup and return. And that area includes Houston, the 4th largest city in the country.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Not only the areas directly affected by the hurricanes but distant friends and relatives worried about their loved ones probably didn't feel like going to the theater.

I just read that early projections put IT as making 50m this weekend. Should be at 210-215m after Sunday.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Looks like $55m+ for It, $16m for American Assassin, and $10m for mother!

Paramount is having a terrible year domestically.

Having seen 6 of those 8, they are some of the worst movies I've seen this year.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Well, it’s clear: Moviegoers officially hate Darren Aronofsky’s mother! The film scored a rare F grade from CinemaScore audiences tonight[...]As we heard at noon, the bold Jennifer Lawrence pic is crashing well below its projections with an estimated $8M in third.

Wouldn't surprise me if Warner (again) underestimated It.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Yeah, their box office receipts prediction model doesn't really work great on event movies like Wonder Woman and IT, especially after a big natural event.
