It's about a former hooker who got help to turn her life around and then has to go back into it to find her friend's killer. Believe it or not, this was a 4 movie series. The 1st 3 movies are on Vinegar Syndrome special edition BDs.

It's a terrible movie. Really poorly written with corny dialogue and cartoonish characters. But, Betsy Russell is smoking hot in this. She was 21 when this movie was made. She wore some really sexy tops and short mini skirts. If the name doesn't sound familiar, she played Jigsaw's wife in the Saw movies. This was typical low budget 1980's schlocky cinema that would air on Cinemax back in the day. There's some partial nudity, but nothing really shocking compared to today's standards.
And you diss my movie choices?

Die Hard With a Vengeance - I hadn't watched this in over 15 years. It holds up pretty well. Willis and Jackson make a good team, and Irons plays a good villain. My biggest criticism is the way McClane (Willis) takes out Zeus (Irons) isn't up-close and personal enough to be completely satisfying. I plan on rewatching the two sequels that follow this one, but right now I'd say this is the next best Die Hard movie after the original.

I was not expecting it to be great and wasted the talents of Ronan and Gandofini

Hey man, I knew it was a bad movie going into it. But it's something I've wanted to see since I was a kid as I saw the VHS on shelves many times. It's schlocky 1980s guilty pleasure and trashy movie.

Cold Skin - I'm a sucker for monster movies and I chanced across this on Prime. It's basically The Lighthouse meets Pitch Black. It wasn't bad. The tension between the main characters is portrayed well, and the resolution is fairly satisfying.

Creep (2004) - Franke Potente stars as a woman who gets locked in the London Underground overnight and is stalked by a deranged mutant killer. The killer is, as the title promises, very creepy. The action is pretty standard slasher flick fare. Too many times she had the upper hand and could have finished him off but ran instead.

Dark Intruder (1965) — Okay feature short (that was a failed TV pilot) has its moments and fun seeing Leslie Nielsen before he became a comedic actor. Nothing great but watchable I suppose. ***/*****

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

When Marnie Was There - Just finished this a few minutes ago and, damn, is someone chopping onions in here? This was another first-watch Ghibli movie for me. It's a beautiful movie and it's a fairly deep story that involves issues like mental health, self esteem, neglect, and loneliness. The character building is well done, and the way the story unfolds is interesting and satisfying, though there is an expository dump at the end that was perhaps necessary but could have been shown more organically. The animation is beautiful and I just want to go live in a Japanese seaside village now. I didn't realize this was based on novel (with the story set in England)--don't know if I'll ever get to it but I'm putting it on my reading list.

It did not get really interesting until Leto came into the scene.

Wish he had a bigger role in the movie.

From the collection.

One of those rare best picture Oscar winners you can watch again and again from the 2010's and even better the second time.

Michael Shannon had a sick cadillac.

Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law WB 4K BD

Both films held up pretty well for me in this re-visit, though "Shadows" drags a bit in the middle. I consider Jude Law the MVP here. Both films feature the "Maximum Movie Mode" which was an interesting way to present the "Making of" material; these days you won't find a major studio going to that expense unless it's in the director's contract.

I always thought Law would have been a better choice for Holmes.

Bird With The Crystal Plumage Arrow Films
Cat O' Nine Tails Arrow Films
Tennebrae Synapse

I've watched three Dario Argento films recently and it's an interesting progression. "Bird" and "Cat" are more restrained and closer to traditional "Who Done It"s, while "Tennebrae" is pretty much gory style over logic. "Bird" pretty much succeeds on all levels, while "Cat" is helped over some rough spots in the narrative by Karl Malden's ingratiating performance. The Arrow packages cover both films pretty thoroughly, giving some insight on Argento's methods and on-set activity (including his rocky relationship with actor Tony Musante). Synapse isn't as thorough with their film but they've included an interesting (spoiler-filled) documentary on the rise and fall of "Giallo" films.

Bright Lights, Big City - I'm pretty sure I watched this movie in the 80s, but it made no lasting impression. It felt like it was Fox trying to stretch himself as an actor, but then the ending felt a little like a cop out. (HBO Max)

Stalker (1979, D: Tarkovsky). Something alien fell to Earth decades ago, and the area around it is now The Zone. Going inside can be instantly deadly, but for incomprehensible reasons. Stalkers have learned moderately safe paths. In this movie, a stalker guides two men into the core the The Zone, seeking a room that grants your deepest desire. The movie is a contemplation on trust, faith, hope, desire, doubt, and the lies you tell yourself. Solaris is supposed to be Tarkovsky's best movie, but I found this to be a lot more accessible.

Earth vs the Spider (1958). A giant spider movie by Bert I. Gordon. The spider is mostly a real spider matted into the live action. Since it's a real spider instead of a puppet or a guy in a rubber suit, it actually works better than I expected. It's still bad. The plot is that the teenagers discover a giant spider, the police laugh at them, they're proved right when the spider crushes cars, and the spider is killed. I still like the scene where the giant spider breaks up a rock and roll dance party in the high school gymnasium. (Svengoolie)

Hulu

Neeson can do other movies outside of the action genre

Maybe not the most pleasant material but both leads did a great job.

Everybody's All American (1988)

I watched this on HBO Max yesterday and it was the last day it was on the service. I've always wanted to see this for many many years, but never got around to it. Has a great cast with Quaid, Lange, John Goodman, Timothy Hutton and Carl Lumbley.

The movie basically follows the turbulent love story of a college football star and his homecoming queen girlfriend/wife through the years from college, until he reaches the pros and in retirement. It's a little sappy in parts, but overall I really enjoyed it.

The Shadow (1994) - Odd 90s "super hero" film. I saw this in the theater back in the day, but I didn't remember much about it. This does appear to be the end of that brief Penelope Ann Miller period.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

I watched it again last Oct

Maybe Baldwin might cringe if he saw that movie today

Penelope was terrible in that movie.

She must have been a girlfriend of a major Hollywood mogul to get all those big jobs back then.

I don't understand why it got such bad reviews though it was not great either and more of a comedy which I did not like.

Hopkins and Mirren did great work as usual.

Hulu with Mia Wasikowska

Spoiler:
It could have been better and the second half after Lucy died the movie lost my interest.
