It was even better the second time and a great cast.
Did not know why I waited 6 years to remove the shinkwrap.
I wish Vanessa Bayer would be more active in movies and TV.

Under the Volcano - Albert Finney is good, I guess, but watching any actor play drunk the entire movie gets tiresome for me. I was never really engaged in this. (HBO Max)

Joy Ride (2001) — On a whim, decided to watch this one after a long while and still an okay thriller. Doesn't make sense how Rusty Nail is able to keep track of the three leads though but still found it entertaining enough. ***¼/*****
Runaway Train (1985) — Really solid action-thriller and a testament that a bulk takes place on a train. Great performances from Jon Voight and Eric Roberts, not to mention John P. Ryan as the d-bag warden. Had heard of this film but never sat down to watch, glad I did. ***¾/*****

Flashdance (1983)
Currently on Peacock and I watched it again after many years. Not a great story by any means, but good music and dancing keeps it somewhat entertaining. And of course there's a 20 year old Jennifer Beals.

My Favorite Year. Mrs Danger wanted me to see it. It was enjoyable, and had some funny moments. I don't know why people list it as a Great Movie.
The Black Scorpion (1957). They hired the great Willis O'Brien to make their stop-action giant scorpions, then didn't give him enough money to finish the project. He finished up working in an employee's garage. Lots of matte shots where the animated scorpion would have gone. (Svengoolie)
Witness for the Prosecution (1957). Billy Wilder puts together a great movie from an Agatha Christie play. We're both finding it even more entertaining than we remembered. (Tubi)

The Man from Hong Kong (aka The Dragon Flies) (1975) — Solid and entertaining action martial arts film. As with some of these movies, there are parts that don't make a whole lot of sense but the action scenes are mostly well done including a fun car chase sequence and the final fight versus George Lazenby was quick but satisfying. ***½/*****

Hulu
If you were looking for steamy sex you will be disappointed.
I liked the Bruce Campbell character though.

Lifeforce (1985) on Amazon Prime. I was too young to see this theatrically, and somehow never caught it on cable or home video, but I was vaguely aware that it was a science fiction movie with a nude woman walking around for much of it.
It does start off as a somewhat promising (though poorly edited) science fiction movie, but quickly transitions into a murder mystery, takes some ill-advised detours into The Exorcist and Carrie territories, and finally finishes as a full-blown supernatural zombie apocalypse. It was never dull, but it never made much sense, either.
As for the nude woman, damn! Unlike the rest of her co-stars (except, perhaps, Patrick Stewart), mid-80s Mathilda May could be dropped into any modern day film and would not look the slightest bit out of place. Timeless beauty, clothed or not.

Shadow in the Cloud BD rental
On a stormy night during World War II, a female pilot with top secret cargo talks her way on board a bomber plane about to take-off. The crass all-male crew reluctantly agrees, but their suspicions about her identity and the mysterious cargo quickly grow. Just then a shadow appears in the clouds - was it the incoming Japanese fleet? Or caused by some other sinister stowaway?
This film sort of mixes a John Carpenter "Woman in a confined space fights for her life" situation with some loopy 'anything goes" Ozploitation story-telling. A fast pace and short running-time helps sell the story, which is a bit of an eye-roller. However, the film looks a bit too clean and "digital" and never evokes the period.
Coming to America Amazon Prime 4K Streaming
Wow, This is over 30 years old and I'm only now getting around to watching it. Entertaining, certainly, but you can definitely see the labor John Landis puts in to set up a joke. Of course, the film gives a lot of time to Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall to play various characters that are vaguely related to the plot. I suppose the whole thing would be far too simple without that. I'll be curious as to what Craig Brewer, -a far different director than Landis, -does with the upcoming sequel.

Watched The Bourne Identity for the 3rd time in several years this evening. Good movie but I couldn't figure out why EVERYONE kept looking at him toward the beginning of the movie with suspicion on their faces. It was like everyone knew he was a wanted man or something. Granted, if you look around suspiciously, somebody will notice. But EVERYONE? I don't think so...

Angry Red Planet Amazon Prime
Directed by Ib Melchior
A team of astronauts return from a mission to Mars with a terrifying tale to tell.
A good old-fashioned '50s "Rocketship" Sci-Fi film. It's a low budget film and the dialogue is kitschy but the tone is surprisingly serious, -certainly as serious as the "Quatermass" films, it's just that this one deals with giant monsters and killer amoebas. It looks like the kind of stuff Wally Wood and other Comics artists were drawing at the time. Fun film if you appreciate this sort of thing.

Le Deuxieme Souffle (1965). Another fine gangster movie from Jean-Pierre Melville. An older gangster escapes from prison, gets caught up in a turf war between the current top guys, and joins a major heist because he needs retirement money. Other Melville movie gangsters look cool and act cool, but these people are desperate. In a Hollywood crime movie of the era, you pretty much knew how it was going to end, but in a Melville movie you don't know at all.
I regularly complain about today's movies being too long. At 2:40, this movie was just right. It has no padding of car chases, gun fights, or any of that B-unit stuff. Every moment was important.

Elysium (2013) — A little heavy-handed at times with the social commentary though that's Neil Blomkamp's thing with all his movies at this point, however still was entertained throughout, the effects were mostly good (a few shots were a bit iffy) and Matt Damon is good in the lead. Didn't exactly land the emotional impact they were going for in the end but still was enjoyed this quite a bit and think it's actually better than District 9 (which I feel is overrated outside of the visual effects) and far and away better than Chappie. ***¾/*****

Showtime
The title is a joke since it is a fictional account with Geoge MacKay from 1917 as the lead.
Kind of lost interest in the last 20 minutes but it was not awful.

Johnny Mnemonic (1995) on Hulu, which I somehow missed seeing theatrically back in my moviegoing prime college years. Very much a product of its time, with some very questionable casting decisions (Keanu Reeves being the most obvious, though Dina Meyer as his bodyguard is also a hard sell) and some very laughable predictions for 2021 technology (I was particularly amused that 320 GB is portrayed as a huge amount of data), yet it still wasn't as awful as I was led to believe. Fans of Gibson's writings (which I have never read) seem to feel differently.

Is that a new Superman movie?
I am in the middle of Superman: Red Son

A Hulu Excusive
A coming of age drama as you would expect.
I liked it and Pete Davidson just get more movie roles.
Jon Cryer was surprisingly good in this.
