Poltergeist (2015) on Cinemax
Not terrible but a remake was not necessary and they broke no new ground with this movie.

For a Few Dollars More - 4/5
Two bounty hunters join forces in the pursuit of a dangerous outlaw who was busted out of prison by his gang. Even though I prefer the plot to A Fistful of Dollars (I love Yojimbo), this film is better crafted and helped a lot by the strong presence of Lee Van Cleef who steals the film from Clint Eastwood.

Testament of Youth
Nothing beats watching a movie set in World War I or II in cold overcast weather while indoors with the same weather outside your home.

10 Cloverfield Lane...excellent. Tense and taut and masterfully crafted.
99 Homes...it was very good. Excellent performances and felt real.
The Night Before...I haven't turned it off yet out of nothing else on but I'm not really loving it. A few smirks. Love Michael Shannon!

Gripping and moving film about a tragedy on the mountain. I had trouble keeping track of people during the storm. This was a docudrama so they should have kept reminders up of who they were and where they were on the mountain. Put people in parkas, add oxygen masks, an accent, plenty of wind and a loud score and you have all the makings of an old guy who can't hear what's going on. I almost turned on the subtitles but by the time I got to that point the storm had subsided.

*Max - HBO
*Goosebumps- Amazon Video - Really wonderful film...even though it was only a minor box office hit (if even that), I can see this film being enjoyed by folks for years to come.

Five Minutes of Heaven - 3.5/5
In 1970's Northern Ireland a young Protestant man assassinates a Catholic in front of his younger brother. Thirty years after the crime (for which he served 12 in prison) he is invited on a talk show to confront the younger brother. A good film that is carried by the performances of the two leads but looses a bit of steam towards the end.

Dark Horse - 3/5
Black comedy about a dysfunctional man in his 30's who is employed by his father, lives with his parents, collects toys and blames all of his failures on everyone but himself. One day at a wedding he falls for a woman who is a failed writer going through depression who also happens to live with her parents. Another Todd Solondz film about suburban alienation with some hilarious moments.

The Look of Silence - 4.5/5
Joshua Oppenheimer's follow-up documentary to the brilliant The Act of Killing shows us the other side of the atrocities committed in Indonesia. The brother of a murdered man interviews those responsible for his death and who to this day remain unpunished for their crimes. Even though I prefer The Act of Killing this is still a powerful film that is no less disturbing.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - 4.5/5
During the Civil War, three men will do whatever it takes to find a cache of stolen Confederate gold. A groundbreaking genre film which I consider one of the top 5 greatest westerns of all time. Don't let the acting credits fool you, this is Eli Wallach's film.
