Pay the Ghost (2015): Supernatural thriller with Nic Cage and Sarah Wayne Callies. Rented this for free from Red Box. It's actually not bad.
Air (2015): Sci-Fi drama from Robert Kirkman, the EP and co-creator of The Walking Dead. Didn't really care for this one. Only 2 principal cast members. Reedus and Honsu. They spend most of the 94 minutes yelling at each other.

Ghost in the Shell (2015) what ... the ... hell? to the fellow patron who requested a CliffsNote version of the movie - I agree. LOL

Li'l Quinquin - 4/5
In rural Northern France, a bumbling cop and his partner investigate a bizarre murder in which a body that's been hacked to pieces is found inside of a cow. While interviewing the colorful locals they constantly cross paths with a foul-mouthed racist juvenile delinquent whose father might be hiding some dark secrets. Good black comedy from Bruno Dumont about the nature of evil that resides within us all.

Return - 3.5/5
A soldier experiences hardship in readjusting to being a mother and wife after returning home from combat. Good film about the irreversible psychological damage of war that's well acted by Linda Cardinelli and Michael Shannon.

I did enjoy 'Flowers'! I had already bought the 3-Disc DVD but wanted to wait to see it at the Film Festival first. Glad I did!
Loved the cinematography as well as the score. I'm not sure if you felt the same but the film was ridiculously claustrophobic (in the best way).
Phil Steven's next feature 'Lung II' is out next year!

Bridgend - 4/5
Grim documentary about a county in South Wales where within a span of 5 years there have been 79 suicides by hanging in which the majority were teen-agers who knew each other. Speculations have been made about a suicide cult, devil worshipping or a serial killer but no proof has ever been found. Sad and creepy.

The Nightmare - 3.5/5
A documentary that re-enacts people's experiences while under sleep paralysis. Focuses on the scary accounts of those who have experienced the condition while skipping the science, which makes it feels like an anthology of horror shorts.

Rubble Kings - 3.5/5
Documentary about the urban decay of the 1970's South Bronx and how poverty caused the emergence of the gangs that ran the streets. As someone who grew up in 1970's NYC I was really into this. At a little over an hour, I wish it could have been longer and gone into more detail.

Renaissance (2006) on Netflix. Absolutely loved the high contrast look of it, absolutely underwhelmed by the story and most of the paper-thin characters. I'm not much on style over substance, so I doubt I will revisit this one again (see also: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow).

Después de Lucía (After Lucía) - 4/5
After the death of her mother, a teen-ager and her father move to a new city. As the new girl in school her daily life becomes a living hell of bullying and humiliation. A well made hard hitting realistic film that is sometimes difficult to watch. Good to see talent coming from Mexico that's just as good, if not better, than the three guys who now work for Hollywood.

Really gave the surrounds a workout. An audio and visual feast for the senses. As far as the movie is concerned i thought it was pretty poor. The dialogue was predictable and attrocious. The green screen and CGI is so obvious it takes you right out of the movie. I can think of a bunch of disaster films much more engaging than this one.

Birth of the Living Dead - 4/5
Documentary about George Romero's Night of the Living Dead. The ideas that influenced it, the making of it and its impact on film. If you're a fan of the film and its director, this is a must watch.
