Someone phones into a radio station to report on the air that all hell is breaking loose in a small Canadian town. There is some kind of outbreak causing people to engage in psychotic behavior. Excellent tension filled first half that eventually becomes a parody of itself when we find out what is really going on.

unfortunately I fell asleep on it - which may or might not be a good thing, but I kind of lost the plot in the process. I want to read the Film Comment article on it, as while watching it raised a lot of questions. Technically it was quite fascinating.

Trainwreck...liked it more than i thought i would. very humorous and some laugh out loud moments. i don't do that very often, but did with this. a little long, but the sweetness was perfect and this movie really showed all her talents. very nicely done.

Not a huge fan of this franchise but love the cars and girls in bikinis. Wanted to see what they did with Walkers character.

Somewhere - 3.5/5
After spending a couple of days with his daughter, a Hollywood actor comes to realize that he leads an empty shallow existence. Another good minimalist film from Sofia Coppola that avoids all the Hollywood clichés in order to get its point across.

Solo Con Tu Pareja - 1.5/5
A womanizer gets his comeuppance when one of his lovers tricks him into thinking that he has AIDS. Should've been titled "Man on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown" for trying too hard to be Almodovar. Alfonso Cuaron's debut film is one big mess that is neither good nor funny.

Stranger by the Lake - 4/5
A gay man who frequents a cruising area by a lake befriends one man and begins a relationship with another. One day the body of a regular is found in the lake and foul play is suspected, yet no one who frequents the lake seems to be phased by it. A well made film that is also a critique on the emotional detachment of a casual sex lifestyle.

Very dark Simon Pegg action comedy. Not bad, but glad I waited until the wife went to bed. Right off the bat there was plenty o' bloodshed.

Ithica Meg Ryan proved she's a competent director as well as an actor.
The Wave - Norway's answer to 'Dante's Peak' and "Poseidon Adventure' okay movie but falls into some Hollywood-esque disaster movie cliches
Louder than Bombs - highly pretentious and thankfully Jesse Eisenberg isn't as annoying as he can be at times.
Last Days in the Desert - can Ewan McGregor portray Jesus? why yes, yes he can
The Secret in their Eyes - surprisingly good remake of the 2009 Argentine

The Brother from Another Planet - 3.5/5
A black alien slave escapes from captivity and lands on Earth. He winds up in Harlem and tries to settle in by befriending some of the locals. Hot on his trail are a couple of white aliens who will do anything to capture him. Debut film from John Sayles is an interesting satire on the hardships immigrants face when moving to a new land.

Paradise : Hope - 3.5/5
A teenager at a summer camp for overweight kids falls in love with a physician who is 40 years older than her. Another bleak film from Ulrich Seidl about characters being beat up by life and having to come to terms with their failures.

Oslo, August 31st - 4/5
A recovering addict from a decent family is about to be released from a rural rehab center. In order to prepare for a new start, he's allowed to visit Oslo to see his sister and attend a job interview. When things don't go well, he seeks some old friends and tries to find a reason to continue living. A well made film about how making drastic changes in your life can alienate you from your past.

Spectre I liked it quite a bit. It did have plenty of throwbacks to earlier chapters but was entertaining enough.
Just a side note. Went to an AMC theater in northern Jersey on a business trip. $13+ to get in, $14+ for popcorn and a drink. The "large' was an average size bag not the family size tub we see at cinemark. $28 for one person to see the movie gave me some sticker shock.

Young & Beautiful - 4/5
After losing her virginity to a guy she barely knew, a 17 year old girl with daddy issues become a prostitute. Another solid film about the chaotic sexual awakening of a young woman from Francois Ozon.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread
It's not a happy film but not as depressing as it sounds. The main character is from a upper middle class household and is not a street hooker with a pimp. She's more what people call an escort and deals with wealthy older men. She does not need the money but probably does it because her father divorced her mother when she was young.
