The Search for General Tso (2014), a very entertaining and engrossing documentary about the origins of General Tso's Chicken, and Americanized Chinese food in general. There are a couple of odd interview choices (the menu collector and the random woman on the street), but there is a wealth of information (and, more importantly, actual answers to the questions posed) in its brief 72 minute run time. Recommended.

A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night - 4/5
A female vampire walks the desolate streets looking to rid the disorderly city of those who are up to no good. Good film that is loaded with atmosphere & style that also features some good acting and beautiful B&W cinematography. Feels like a blend of Jim Jarmusch, Abel Ferrara and David Lynch. Looking forward to Ana Lily Amirpour's next film.

The Admiral - Roaring Currents 3/5
I thought it was pretty good flick. Sea battle were a little too CGI for my taste. Min-sik Choi was fine as the real life Admiral Yi Sun-shin.

The Moth Diaries - 3.5/5
A teen still grieving over her father's suicide begins a new semester at an all girl boarding school. When a new student is admitted to the school and strange things start to happen, she suspects that the new girl might be a vampire. A well made good looking atmospheric film that is let down by a weak ending.

Tied - 3.5/5
A wealthy man engages in a sado-masochistic relationship with a woman. Soon their behavior behind closed doors begins to consume their lives and the lines of fantasy and reality begin to blur. Good French film that could have been better with some more backstory on the lead characters.

The Last Dragon - '80s cheese in all its glory, yet it's damn entertaining. Why, oh why, did Vanity have to take up a crack-cocaine addiction? She was absolutely gorgeous.

Night Falls on Manhattan - 3.5/5
A former police officer who is now an assistant DA is assigned his first trial as a prosecutor. He must put away a notorious drug dealer who while evading arrest killed and wounded several police officers.
By taking on this case he eventually starts to realize how corrupt the system really is. Another film about the flaws in law enforcement and the legal system from Sidney Lumet.

Annie (2014) 3/5
I know it's sacrilegious but I actually enjoyed this remake. I liked Quvenzhané Wallis and Rose Byrne performances and Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz performances were tolerable. The updated songs from the musical were okay by me.

The Housemaid - 3.5/5
A young feeble-minded woman from the city is hired to work at the mansion of a wealthy family. While there she is seduced by the master of the house and once the rest of the family becomes aware of this, they take it upon themselves to do something about it. Good film about how the wealthy abuse their power by exploiting their hired help. Did not know this was a remake until after I finished viewing it. Have to check out the original which according to what I've read is supposed to be better.

Camille Claudel 1915 - 4/5
Three days in the life of the sculptor who was committed in 1913 to an asylum and remained there for the next 30 years until her death. Was she ill enough to be committed or was her temperament too much to handle? Bruno Dumont shows us what three days of hell can feel like and Juliette Binoche gives one of her best, if not her best performance ever.
