Iron Sky. A satire about a secret Nazi colony on the moon, set six years in the future. The president of the US is Sarah Palin. We expected to get bored and stop watching, but it held our attention to the end. (Tubi).

I own this

I think this version is OOP but the 40th anniversary probably replaced which it which I also own but I like the artwork on this version better.

John Saxon and Jim Kelly are probably hanging out with Bruce up in heaven right now.

I was surprised Gene Siskel hated it and gave it a rating of 1.5.

I am a sucker and paid $49 for Game of Death the Shout Factory edition at Amazon from a 3rd party seller.

Wish I had gotten it around 2017 and sucks and strange that is now OOP.

The Big Easy (1998) — Decent enough mystery-thriller-romance features good performances from Dennis Quaid and Ellen Barkin. It is on the predictable side but still entertaining enough. ***Ĺ/***** (Blu-ray)

Netflix disc rental

I was not into it for maybe the first 10 minutes but then it got better.

Worth watching though it deals with depressing material.

I prefer the re-dubbed audio, with the less pronounced Scottish accents, as that's the version I first heard. Never cared for the original audio track after I finally listened to it. The re-dubbed is better, IMO.

2007

Starz

It was not as bad as the reviews.

It might be a shock Amy Heckerling directed it.

Saorse Ronan played Michelle's daughter and probably stole the movie and she covered Ironic by Alanis with some Dubya bashing lyrics.

I remembered the title, from when it was initially released, but hadn't seen it. I happened across it and knew right away that I'd enjoy it, so I recorded the next showing.

When I read about the dubbing, after watching it, I meant to find a comparison to know which version it was. I watch a fair number of Scottish shows, so the accent is not usually a problem.

Okay, there is a comparison video, and the broadcast used the original track.

It was nice seeing Jake D'arcy (RIP) as the coach. I had only known him as Pete the Jakey in Still Game.

Yeah, this was a really nice film that I'll buy a copy of, but of course it's fairly expensive. Seems like it would be a good fit for Criterion. I see that it is available on the Criterion Channel, so I could've watched it there. Unfortunately, they don't have any other Bill Forsyth titles, as I'd like to see more.

I have the Second Sight UK blu-ray, which has both audio tracks. The reason I prefer the re-dub is that it just works better for Gregory's character ... the actor's actual voice just doesn't match the character, I find. The re-dub is more authentic to me, particularly during the awkward, comedic bits ...

Took us three nights but the wife and I watched the 4 hour version of Branagh's Hamlet and it's worth every minute.

Loved this when I caught it in 2013. I wrote this at the time:

I watched Iron Sky last night. A tongue-in-cheek dark comedy, whose permise is that in 1945 a bunch of Nazi's fled to the dark side of the moon and hid there until their attempt to take back the earth in 2018.

There was a definite steam-punk vibe, particularly with the invasion force featuring several "space" zeppelins.

It's not high-brow comedy. Heck, a lot of the gags fell flat. And there are all sorts of problems with physics and science and stuff but if you've already accepted the theme of Moon Nazis, the suspension of belief in other areas comes easy.

It's on Netflix. Recommended.

SISU - 2023

I just posted my reaction in the Movies thread, cut/pasting below:
Highly recommended, but decidedly not for the squeamish.

Lapland, 1944. An old man just wants to be left alone but is attacked by a Nazi patrol. He responds appropriately.

100% testosterone, 0% woke. Just like the Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Westerns of old. In simple terms, this is the Finnish John Wick.

"No moral ambiguity, no .. hopeless battle against ancient and overwhelming forces. They were the bad guys, as you say, and we were the good guys."

4.0 Stars (on the Modified USS Eisenhower Movie Rating System):
0.0 Snake, Train or Indian
1.5 Good Mort (omg!!!)
1.0 Destruction of Public Property (Soviet plane)
1.5 Memorable Line ("Why! Won't! You! Die?!?")
0.0 Nudity
(Films can score 0, 1/2, or 1 star in each category. An extra 1/2 bonus star can be awarded in up to two categories in exemplary situations. All categories are intended to be scored critically EXCEPT for Snake, Train, Indian, which is designed to be very loosely scored - a real snake, a guy named Snake, someone driving a Cobra, a choo-choo, a wedding dress with a long train, Geronimo, Elizabeth Warren, Ghandi, an aboriginal Australian - all of these count)

If anybody spots a Snake, Train or Indian, please let me know. This film deserves one.

Starz

2018

Ken Marino directed a movie that would probably would fit the criteria of a Hallmark movie?

It seems he got a lot of his buddies since it is a all-star cast.

It was ok for a Tues night
