Run - mediocre film with parkour embellishments. I guess they want to make William Moseley into a leading man now that he's all grown up. Doesn't work. The parkour is nice but Luc Besson Productions do it better.

You're the only person I've ever heard say that. I prefer the "Bootleg" version.

Escape From New York - 4/5

In the not so distant future the crime rate rises at a dramatic rate and the island of Manhattan is made into a federal prison. On his way to an important meeting the president's plane is hijacked and crashes inside the island. A dangerous convict and former war hero is promised to be pardoned if he can go in and rescue the president in 24 hours. John Carpenter delivers another genre cult classic with a great cast and soundtrack.

Equilibrium (2002) - 5/5

In a Fascist future where all forms of feeling are illegal, a man in charge of enforcing the law rises to overthrow the system.

------------

Reminded me of The Matrix, but on a whole different level.

Yes sir! I'm still glad I have my Japanese HD-DVD - so far the only legit copy of the film with the correct OAR and sound.

The Ninth Configuration - 5/5

Second film of William Peter Blatty's faith trilogy (The Exorcist/The Ninth Configuration/Legion) about an astronaut (the one who Regan MacNeil tells "You're going to die up there" in The Exorcist) who loses his sanity right before being sent to the moon. After the incident he is sent to an asylum for Vietnam veterans with PTSD. While there he develops a relationship with the new head psychiatrist and becomes engaged with him in a spiritual tug of war about the existence of God. An amazing, intelligent and original film that overlaps many genres and has to be seen to be believed.

The Possession (2012). Going off in a couple of days, so watched it while doing computer business.

Okay time-killer but definitely not worth going out of your way to see.

In A World... Lake Bell's directing debut about a young and aspiring voice over actor. I missed it in theaters in 2013 but if I had seen it then it would have been in my To-10 list for sure. It's a great little indy comedy.

Rabid - 4/5

David Cronenberg's second film about a young woman who after a motorcycle accident undergoes an experimental skin graft.
After healing from the operation she develops a taste for human blood and her victims become infected with a rabies like virus.
Creepy low budget thriller that combines the themes of vampirism, body horror, disease & zombies.
The film also showcases one of the greatest directors honing his craft for his next film The Brood.

Re: Last movie you watched

Run of the Arrow- Pulpy western from the great Sam Fuller, the premise of which, coincidentally or not, is very similar to Costner's Dances With Wolves. A disillusioned former Confederate soldier joins the Native American Sioux tribe, only to discover that man's inherent vices run deeper than blood or skin color. Fuller's lean, mean, angry, no bullshit style is brilliant as always, and the story itself, like most overachieving B-movies, is deceptively simply. Rod Steiger is good in the central role, and Fuller's smart politics lift the movie up considerable, in spite of its obviously low-budget production values. It has brains and brawn, and it's a nice, lean length. Good stuff. Saw this on TCM in the proper widescreen aspect ratio, has it ever been released on DVD?

The Last Stand (2013) on Netflix, mildly entertaining and mostly forgettable. After this and The Good, The Bad, The Weird, I don't know...maybe Kim Jee-Woon just needs to stay away from directing "action" films.

Los Bastardos - 4/5

Tired of being exploited & underpaid, two illegal Mexican laborers decide to take on a different kind of job. The job involves being paid a bunch of cash to do something with a sawed off shotgun. Good film done in a style similar to Bruno Dumont & Michael Haneke. Mexican director Amat Escalante who recently won best director at Cannes for his latest film Heli has become a force to be reckoned with.

Wake Wood - 2/5

After losing their daughter, a couple living in Ireland strike a bargain with the locals who practice Pagan rituals. If they remain living in the town, they will bring their daughter back to life for 3 days. Below average horror film that contains elements of The Wicker Man & Pet Sematary.

Filth (2013) - Really enjoyable. James McAvoy was excellent. Pairs up well with The Wolf of Wall Street.
