As I'm not a Star Trek fan, I'd be ok with this... JJ actually made me care about that franchise.

Gotta disagree with you there. I watched ROTJ this weekend with my kids and it's not great... I'm not sure it's even "very good". It's oik with some moments of very good.

IMO, RotJ was the death of the franchise. Of course, I didn't see OT Star Wars until just prior to Episode I, RotJ was such a chore to get through.

Lucas looks like Abrams is pointing a gun at his back.

I'm going into it with lowered expectations.

If I watch it with a Holy shit, this is going to be the best thing ever! attitude I'm probably going to leave the theater feeling burned.

Was Kenny Baker at the premiere? Are they still pretending that he was actually inside of R2 for any portion of filming?

Has he really not been in there for some time? When did he stop doing so?

He's in there in the prequels, but not very much. Mostly only in tight shots.

This is how I'm going into it, the original three films were such a big part of my childhood and then the following prequels kind of took a dump on that so I'm just going into this with lowered expectations. I am excited about seeing the film though and bought tickets for a showing on Saturday so we shall see.

Now there's crazy Star Wars fans that plan to spoil the movie everywhere on the internet if Disney doesn't meet their demands:

The Alliance to Preserve the Expanded Universe is a Star Wars private Facebook group that organises petitions against Disney and Lucasfilm asking them to continue creating stories based in Star Wars Legends, the brand formerly known as the Expanded Universe.

That’s the name for all the books, comics and other media based on the Star Wars films that occur outside the movies, and have been published for decades, all aligning to their own codependent continuity. Which was all rendered moot last year, the Expanded Universe closed down and rebranded Star Wars Legends, to make way for new continuity based on the new movies.

The group’s goals are to convince Disney and Lucasfilm to continue the stories of Star Wars Legends with new Legends books, comics, and games, even if those stories are an alternate universe and to raise awareness of the line.
And in order to do that, it is encouraging its 3,694 members to spoil Star Wars: The Force Awakens in as many forms of social media as they can, unless Disney and Lucasfilm give into their demands.

It has been dubbed “spoil-jihadi”. While the Facebook group is closed, commentary from members has been posted elsewhere…

Christ! The funk of nerd has infested Star Wars. If anything kills the franchise it's that. Anyone remember when Star Wars was cool? Now it's like Trek.
