I don't really understand why some people are still mint on card collectors to be honest. I suppose they feel it adds to the potential value but most modern stuff won't be valuable anyways because of how everything is so mass produced now days. Even then though I don't collect for value but rather just that I enjoy displaying figures not just sitting unopened in a box.

To each their own, but I never understood that either. That was a great bit!

No advanced tickets but where I live is small enough that the local theater won't sell out. I plan to go to the opening show Thursday at 7 and will probably see it a second time Friday or Saturday.

A quart of midichlorians? WTF?

I'm starting to think you haven't actually seen the movie.

And Daisy Ridley has not even been confirmed for Episode VIII.

But
Spoiler:
Hamill, Isaac and Boyega have been confirmed.

Here's the full segment that aired on 60 Minutes last night. It features Williams conducting the track for the opening scene. There is also a glimpse of some new footage (Rey freeing BB-8 after he's captured by Teedo):

I find it amusing that the Disney police ran in to order Bill Whitaker to stop filming with his iPhone.

Spoiler:
But she was apparently spotted during location filming on Skellig Michael a couple months ago. Rian Johnson was present, so that was most certainly for Episode VIII.

I hoarded a ton of Star Wars toys in the packaging (at least a dozen Rubbermaid tubs worth) until I was 17 or so... then I took a long hard look at what the hell I was doing and realized how pointless it all was. It just wasn't fun anymore... not to mention that collecting for collecting's sake is a major waste of cash. Who wants hundreds of carded figures wallpapering their bedroom? I'm doing my best to donate most of those items to kids that might actually play with them.

I'd been out of the toy collecting game all together for nearly a decade, but have jumped back into it in a big way in the last four years (to the tune of nearly 100 figures). Most of those are specialty market items geared toward older collectors: NECA, Diamond Select, Mezco... etc. Every single one of them has been opened and displayed. I couldn't give a crap about their future value, I just like how they look and wanted to own them. As for The Force Awakens items, I bought a set of the Elite Series die casts from the Disney Store and a ceramic BB-8 bank to put on my desk. Even if I really love the movie, I doubt I'll be picking up much else.

I am so excited about this. I can remember last December and thinking "still a whole year to go."

But here we are. The week of release. Cannot fucking wait until Thursday at 7 p.m. First show. Would not miss it.

I refuse to believe this won't be a very good movie. JJ knows he can't screw this up, especially after the prequels debacle.

While listening to John Williams score the first scene after the opening crawl, I had a vision of
Spoiler:
Luke's hand floating through space still grasping his lightsaber.
I'm a little scared that might be the first image we see. When it was first brought up probably a year ago, I thought NO WAY, but now, I"m not so sure.

Luke dropped his light saber in Empire. No way that's a thing.

Could be Vader's hand, though.

Well, technically Luke didn't drop his saber - Vader chopped his hand off which was still holding the saber.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015, Abrams) S: Hamill, Ford, Fisher

I wouldn't mind seeing a lightsaber floating in space as the opening shot, just not the hand attached to it, especially if it is Luke's. It would kind of be cool to see the hilt of the lightsaver creep into view slowly, everyone thinking it is a space ship.

I have such faith in JJ that this is going to hit all the right buttons for the fans. Hopefully we aren't let down. To think about it, only 2 of the 6 movies were good from start to finish. LOL, that's a worse record than the Fast and the Furious franchise.

For only a second. The light saber didn't stay on his hand. Watch Empire again if you don't believe me.

I'm not debating how long the hand was holding the saber hilt. I was simply correcting the statement that he "dropped" his lightsaber. He didn't, unless you consider a severed hand to still be under the control of the former owner.

That would remind me an awful lot of the opening to Star Trek: Generations.

Maybe it'll be the hand of the Cantina alien.

Pre-purchased a ticket to see it Saturday at Noon.

Not going to take a chance to do just a walk-up, especially the 1st weekend.

STL Science Center showing 'Star Wars' in 'best format ever'

ST. LOUIS -- The OMNIMAX Theater at the St. Louis Science Center is one of only 15 theaters in the world to show Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 70mm IMAX format, which has been deemed the "best format ever."

Key sequences of the film were shot using special IMAX cameras that shoot in the highest resolution currently possible. The image quality is almost 10 times the resolution of standard projection formats.

The film is being shown at the OMNIMAX four times a day for the next several weeks. Tickets are available by visiting slsc.org, calling (314) 289-4424, or stopping by the St. Louis Science Center box office.

Great except omnimax is a curved screen dome-like process. That will look like shit. Why not give the scant 70 mm 15 perf prints to a place that shows flat IMAX?
