Going @ 7:30 Thursday show with about 12 other family and friends. We pre-purchased them last month and plan on getting there pretty early since they aren't assigned seating. My son's excited to see Star Wars in the theaters for the first time so it's mainly for him and have a good time with buddies. I just hope to be entertained and not getting my expectations up. Trailers have looked good so far though so it should be fun.

This is pretty neat, it's not very long but the tech is cool. Just tried it here at work.
Since real lightsabers don't exist (yet), Google and the studios behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens are offering the next-best thing: A program that turns your smartphone into a lightsaber, which then takes out bad guys on your computer screen. Lightsaber Escape is live now -- open it in your desktop browser and then punch in the unique URL on your phone (or vice versa), and you're good to go. Your phone becomes a lightsaber handle and, as you move it around, the actual glowing sword moves on the desktop.

Yes they are... just let them in.
I did and it was pretty much what I expected. I won't have my cherry popped at the theater like everyone else.

what amazes me about the Disney/Star Wars marketing juggernaut and i didn't even know this was ethical, but they have promotions with 2 different car companies: Dodge and Fiat. Now, maybe they can do that because they are not direct competitors? i just thought it was weird to see 2 different car companies...

I read the novelization for II and III before seeing them, but I've decided to avoid all-out spoilers on this one. I don't think it will make much difference to how much I enjoy it, but what the hell?

They have a Jeep one also. Which they also own and are made by Toledo's finest mullets and drunks.

I didn't want to go into the reviews thread for fear of spoilers, but WGN's Dean Richards gave this an A+.

Crap. I wanted to go into this with slightly lower expectations than I did the prequels. So much for that.

The negatives amount to the story which is full of "remember when you first saw this? Remember how cool that was? well here it is again with a slight spin"
Part reboot/ part remake is as huge a spoiler as you need to know going in to adjust your expectations.
But then being Abrams, people should have been expecting this...especially with all the familiar iconography on display right down to the death starry looking thing on the one sheets.
If you were hoping for a narrative to blast off in new directions worthy of those visuals in the trailers and TV spots, you might be disappointed.
OTOH, I'm seeing nothing but praise for the new characters. People, even ones that have issues with the story, like them quite a bit and that is a huge leap over the prequel experience.
If they can shake the "been there/done that" with the next two films, then the new trilogy should be a clear net success.
