Dr Mabuse 07-02-08 08:28 AM

well with 4 exclamation points in a thread title...

this must be exciting news?...

The Bus 07-02-08 08:32 AM

What timing...

JPRaup 07-02-08 08:42 AM

Jesus, I hope it's better that the awful excuse of a movie known as Pirates 3.

RichC2 07-02-08 08:42 AM

Hopefully it's better than the last 2!!!

Oh and the Oldboy Remake isn't dead apparently!

DeputyDave 07-02-08 09:21 AM

I'll see it but I hope they halt (and reverse) the progressive slide the trilogy made down the tubes.

taa455 07-02-08 09:25 AM

No Elizabeth and Will is a good sign. Their silly love story was a big problem I had with 3.

silentbob007 07-02-08 09:33 AM

Shouldn't this be Pirates 5? At World's End felt like at least two movies.

chris_sc77 07-02-08 09:36 AM

I too hope its better than Pirates 3.
I say they seriously need to downsize the amount of visual effects if they use if they a fourth film. All the effects they used in Pirates 3 were for the most part just boring and a waste of money. Just get a good compelling story and some sword fighting and johnny Depp. Thats really all you need.

Superman07 07-02-08 09:37 AM

I thought this was old news and discussed immediately around the time Pirates 3 was out?

Besides, isn't there a 15+ year moratorium until 4 can come out? Oh wait, wrong franchise.

sauce07 07-02-08 09:42 AM

Start fresh, bring only johnny back (of the principal cast), make it under 2 hours and have it be fun.

chris_sc77 07-02-08 09:46 AM

I think a prequel would work. It could show how Sparrow got his compass/map and his ship and the origin of his character.
Maybe a sparrow vs. Blackbeard kinda thing/
And please, for the love of god NO ALIENS.

that article is from September 2007, it's kinda hard to run on news from almost a year ago. I would like to see the remake with possibly Christopher Nolan directing and Christian Bale as the lead. I just think that kind of combo, especially with their present work as well, would do justice for the property.

I liked all the movies about the same, so if Verbinski and Depp are back, I'm sold.

The Infidel 07-02-08 10:11 AM

There shouldn't have been a 2 or 3, so a 4 is definitely unwarranted.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Man, I still can't get the bad taste that was 2 and 3 out of my mouth. Terrible terrible films. And the first was **so** good. Such a huge shame.

It was a joke as the article in Groucho's post is almost a year old.

Sounds like panic from Disney since their Narnia movies aren't working out as well as they might have hoped.

Before they work on signing Depp, they should work on signing an EDITOR. Sitting through the last one was like pulling teeth.

chris_sc77 07-02-08 02:17 PM

I do agree about the length on Prates 3 myself. AND I NEVER complain about movies being too long. I think 1 and 2 are fine the way they are but Pirates 3 could easily have been 30 minutes shorter. Seriously when I say a movie is too long you know it is definitely too long.

dick_grayson 07-02-08 02:19 PM

I couldn't sit through the last two. Boring and seemingly never-ending. I think I'll pass if they do a 4th.

Mr. Cinema 07-02-08 03:02 PM

I liked part 3 more than 2.

fumanstan 07-02-08 03:24 PM

Yikes, I guess i'm one of the few that liked both sequels.

You, sir, should lose your moniker, and be banned.

2 was ok, but not nearly as good as the first. 3 was a piece of shit. I'd welcome any sequel that dropped Will and Elizabeth.

hardercore 07-02-08 06:16 PM

Put me in Mr. Cinema's camp. 1, 3, 2 for me. Thought I still hope that this doesn't get greenlit.

Who am I kidding, Pirates is a cashcow. Course it is ...

lopper 07-02-08 09:17 PM

I hated part 3 in the theater, but I watched it again on DVD a couple of weeks ago and I really enjoyed it.

For my money, the "Davey Jones" effects are far and away the best CGI I've ever seen, and make parts 2 and 3 totally watchable on their own merits. So damn impressive...

I dig the Pirates franchise quite a bit, much more than most recently developed franchises, and look forward to parts 4, 5, and beyond.

So did I.

But looking back on both of them - they sucked compared to the original.
