I found select sequences entertaining (Barbossa marrying Will and Elizabeth while fighting--and steering--was great fun), but on the whole it seemed like no one was willing to trim the fat. I loved the first one enough that I'm game for the fourth, but if it doesn't win me back then Disney should go ahead and count me out for a fifth.

Unless, of course, he finds himself as minimized as did Chow Yun-Fat in the last one. For now, I'm content to hope you're right.

They were always vague as to how big Yun-Fat's role was. McShane has been advertised from Day One as the main antagonist.

I figured the point of casting a guy like him and putting his name and face on the poster was to make sure we knew he was in the movie. Beyond that, I'd be lying if I said I had followed advance press materials, etc. enough to have a sense of how his role was presented. In any event, I've got my fingers crossed that Ian McShane will rock our socks off as Blackbeard.

Yeah me too. I really liked the 2nd one. I actually seen that one I think 3 times in the theater. 3rd one was decent but the weakest of the bunch.

This one looks looks like alot of fun though I will miss keira knightley

New trailer. I guess the mermaids play heavily into the plot.

It looks decent.

But is it just me or are these trailers totally tip-toeing around the fact that there really isn't anything moneyshot worthy in the entire movie?

These trailers seem to be lacking any kind of hook imo. There are mermaids, zombies, Penelope Cruz and even Ian McShane as Blackbeard, yet none of this seems to be grabbing me at all.

The original movie had a terrible trailer too. I remember shaking my head at it, and was expecting it to suck when my friend convinced me to go see it.

I agree with this. The trailers look boring - like some big, bloated Hollywood spectacle devoid of anything truly interesting. It'll be 2+ hours of eye candy with no soul.

That's exactly how I feel too. I love the first 3...yeah even the third one. I'm just a big Pirates fan, but for whatever reason this one is doing nothing for me. Bloom and Knightley are no major loss in my opinion so it's not just that they're not in the movie. It's something else I can't put my finger on. I'm surprised that I'm not excited by this at all. Honestly I haven't even watched the tailers all the way through. I'm just not interested.

I'll definitely see it, but I'm surprised that I'm not pumped for this movie.

Maybe it's too much Jack Sparrow for you?

I wonder if people are just tired of seeing more of the same? The first Pirates was fresh and new, but seeing Jack now for a 4th movie doing the same "wacky" stuff might be getting old.

That very well might be true. I like the character but he is kind of a one trick pony ya know. There isn't a whole lot more we can learn about the character and we've pretty much seen everything he has to offer. Watching him interact with Knightley was fun, but now we're just getting Cruz instead of Knightley. His interaction with Geoffrey Rush was fun too, but we've already seen that. Now I guess we get to see him interact with Blackbeard, but we've seen it all before.

Per imdb the runtime is 141 min, which thank god its not ungodly long like At Worlds End. This means its actually the shortest of them all (first one was 143), although 1 is really only like 130 min but has an insane amount of end credits

The first one was lots of fun, much better than I expected, the second wasnt as good (it dragged quite a bit) and I havent seen the third one yet.
This fourth one looks good though :)
Pirates! Mermaids! Penélope Cruz! Zombies! :)

I see Sparrow as a sort of flamboyant James Bond. We don't watch to learn anything, really, about him as a character. Rather, we watch to see him contend with different people and situations. I think getting away from the Elizabeth/Will storyline will help.

Everything that had to do with Orlando Bloom's character dragged for me ,this included almost the entire plot with Davy Jones. Just really boring sequels.
