A Pirates of the Caribbean movie with just Johnny Depp and no Kiera Knightly or Orlando Bloom? Count me in. I wish they had all been like that.

edit: You can especially count me in if Geoffrey Rush is back too.

PopcornTreeCt 01-12-08 02:20 PM

Yeah, that's not really news. That was pretty much said before the 3rd one even came out.

With Pirates 2 earning over a billion dollars worldwide and Pirates 3 close to it, Disney will spend whatever it takes to make part 4 happen. I think Depp said in an interview earlier this year he would be up for another Jack Sparrow performance.

Yep, old news, but I am glad to see they plan on dropping Snorelando Bloon and Ethiopia Knightley. A film that purely focuses on Sparrow can only be a good thing, as long as Depp doesn't overdo it like he did (a bit) in PotC3.

Daytripper 01-12-08 03:11 PM

I'd be happy with an actual script and less special effects. The last two SUCKED and were CGI overload. Really hated those films. And loved the first one so much!

I'm sure you're familiar with saying too much of a good thing. The first film was such a success because it used Sparrow wisely. The time away from him left everyone wanting more, but the other stories and characters were good enough to not make one feel ansy. I don't think Bloom and Knightly are essential, especially when I think we've gone as far as possible with them. Depp needs good supporting characters in the next films though.

I loved the sequels, and as long as Depp is game, so am I. I'm not sure what he overdid in part 3 especially considering he isn't even in the film for the first half hour, and the hell sequence was mesmerizing, funny, and a nice risk for the film. I think some his best Sparrow stuff is in that film.

I felt like he was almost playing a parody of Sparrow in some scenes rather than staying completely true to the character. I'll admit I only saw P3 once in theaters, and haven't watched my DVD yet, so I may be wrong. It just seemed like he was playing up Sparrow's antics a bit more than before, although that could just as easily be the writers' fault more than Depp's. Either way I'm just glad to know they plan on dropping Elizabeth and Will.

I didn't realize it was that old of news. Anyways, Jack Sparrow is probably my favorite Pirates character. So a movie w/ just Jack Sparrow and his crew ..for me, is a good thing. In the past movies, I had also wanted more scenes w/ Jack and less w/ will turner.

Whether it happens or not, with just Johnny Depp, or the whole cast .. it's a sure watch for me :)

I posted a similar post not quite a year ago, strangely enough with almost the exact same topic title with the double question marks and everything.

Anyone else feel that Depp's voice as Sparrow was considerably deeper in the sequels as opposed to the original film?

he sounds the same to me.

Me too. As someone else pointed out, he played it more camp in #2 and #3. Just want to add, I like Knightly. Bloom, I could do without. I would love a new director and screenwriter if they did #4.

I would like to see Elizabeth back, I think she has a lot more character exploration left, especially now that Will is out of the way -- his character really floundered in 2 and 3. My biggest request is simple though: Please write the script before the movie is started. Making it up on the fly doesn't work well (the extras on the 2 & 3 DVDs explained alot).

Artman 01-12-08 09:59 PM

Meh, not really my idea for another sequel. I always thought another one with Will Turner during his ten yr sentence as captain of the Flying Dutchman would be kinda cool. They could always work in the other characters somehow.

Most importantly, could they actually make one that's less than 135 minutes long?

Will isn't necessarily out of the way. It depends how you interpret the ending.

Please. You used an ellipsis...that is way different.

Just saw part III again a few days ago and wondered about this. They did leave it open with the "Fountain of Youth" possibility. Looks like a little race to immortality between Jack and Barbosa. I'd watch it.

mndtrp 01-13-08 08:39 PM

I would have been much happier with 2 and 3 being independent movies, instead of two halves of a single plot. Since the 4th movie would probably take care of that problem, I'm up for it.

fumanstan 01-13-08 08:55 PM

I guess i'm one of the few that actually liked Will and Elizabeth's story throughout the movies. I'd feel something would be missing if they weren't in a part 4. I love watching Jack Sparrow, but he definitely needs more to play off of.

one of the few here. Always keep that in mind. I also liked their story. But I don't really see what else they can do with their story without it coming off as forced.

starseed1981 01-14-08 10:00 AM

I'd see it.

LockStock 01-14-08 11:29 AM

As much as I'd like to see more of Jack Sparrow, I feel like this is overkill.

Groucho 07-02-08 08:26 AM

Pirates 4 maybe!!!!

Apparently, there may be a fourth Pirates of the Carribean movie!
