He gave it as many stars as Snow White and the Huntsman and a half star more than The Avengers.;)

Superboy is a little different though since he is a DC character. When the competitor praises the movie, you know it must be a damn good movie.

No, this thread is nothing but love for The Amazing Spider-Man.

I'm stunned Superboy liked it.

If Supermallet and Superboy both like this, then I think hell has just frozen over.

You're about six months late to the party.

But you know, looks can be deceiving. Sure a lot of the pre-release stuff looked bad, but the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive.

Haters versus Plants.

Damn this is so stupid.

I like a lot of movies. I liked the Dark Knight a lot. Didn't see much wrong with that movie. I liked Inception. I liked Iron Man.

A movie has to screw up pretty badly for me to dislike it, and a lot of movies tend to do that.

Yeah, but it tastes great and it's less filling.

Just got into a free 3D showing the day before it comes out! Looking forward to it.

He actually gave Gigli 2.5 stars. Still too high, of course.

‘Spider-Man’ Opens Bigger Than ‘Avengers’ In Early Foreign Markets

EXCLUSIVE: Sources are telling me that Sony Pictures’ The Amazing Spiderman swept the Asian box office this weekend as the much-anticipated actioner opened early in a handful of international territories. The reboot of Marvel’s most popular character will be released July 3rd in the U.S./Canada where rival studios report the tracking has been flat. ”It’s off to a fantastic start overseas,” an insider gushes to me. In Korea the 3D film debuted to $13M, bigger than Marvel’s The Avengers which scored one of the biggest openings ever there. The sources say that India took in $5+M, more than Avengers, for the biggest opening ever there for an American film. Singapore, Hong Kong, Phillippines all reported “huge” openings, too. It’s a very auspicious start for director Marc Webb and stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in the Spider-Man origins film similar to the original told just 10 years ago. Disney may own Marvel now, but Sony Pictures doesn’t have to share its worldwide box office grosses from The Amazing Spider-Man. Instead, Disney/Marvel receives all the merchandising loot.

What determines where a movie opens? Why Asia first? Fear of piracy so they release there first or what?

How would opening in Asia first deter piracy exactly?

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

Maybe it's Asia first simply because it's a movie from Sony.

I had no intention of seeing this in theaters, but since a friend really wanted to see it, I buckled. One thing I noticed when I purchased my tickets online is that the film opens Tuesday everywhere and there are plenty of tickets available at all hours of the day throughout the entire week. This thing is NOT selling out around here. And these are at awesome theaters, too. Reserved seating and everything.

I was just throwing it out there. Asia has a bigger piracy thing. more people so more money loss etc.

Forgot Sony is from Japan. i guess that could factor in as well.

If it opens here first, it gets pirated and distributed in Asia. If it opens in Asia first, less incentive to pirate since people can just go see it. I doubt it would deter it much but I can see why they might do it.

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

I thought piracy was actually much more rampant in Asia than over here. I remember reading in a magazine in the 90s that talked about how during the NES/SNES era it was easier to find a pirated game than it was to find an actual legitimate game in Hong Kong.
