Spiderman 3's biggest problem is that no one seemed to give a shit, about anything.

I'm not a huge fan of the franchise, so my expectations are very low. I hated 500 Days of Summer, but I think Garfield is a capable actor. This is a personal observation, but I find Toby Maguire extremely creepy. There is something very off putting about him I can't quite explain, and it shows through in all his performances. He has an extremely decent filmography (particularly the former half), but i've never been very keen on any one performance of his.

I don't care at all about them rebooting the franchise. It has nowhere to go but up, and Spider-Man 2 gets more credit than it deserves. It's the best of an extremely mediocre series of films. It wins by default.

The origin changes in that there's the introduction to the parents...
Spoiler:
and their involvement with Oscorp. with how he was left with Aunt May and Uncle Ben. It's subtle. And I doubt JQP knows what happened to his parents outside of them dying in a car accident. Here, they are missing, not dead. Gwen and Peter are the high school genius': with Gwen being the driven one and Pater the smart but uninspired. Connors is running the DNA experiments for Oscorp answering to Van Adder. Connors also worked with Peter's parents so these things tie in and change the story enough to make it different. The Spidey POV is just a short scene. We get a lot of him learning how to web swing. We get no MJ, no Harry and find out more about Gwen. The ending is set up for a sequel.
There's enough differences to make it stand apart from Raimi's films and start a new story.

You're confusing Garfield with Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Ah, an HD version. Now I can clearly see this film looks terrible.

While I don't love every aspect of the trailer, I'm still going to see it.

Some aspects I actually like, others I'm iffy on.

I don't know, i actually kind of liked the 1st person part. No way could i take that for every action sequence, but it would be ok for a short period.

But the tone overall - no likey. very Emo. One of the best things about spider-man is the lightheartedness. He's not batman. He uses one-liners in fights.

Do we really need to see the origin story again?

I have very mixed feelings. Part of me wants to really hate this. But the FP stuff was very cool. I remember the thrill of watching the webswinging sequences in Spider-Man. After years of imagining it in my mind and watching it in cartoon form, to see it in "real" life was amazing (no pun intended). This sequence kind of gave me that same buzz.

I'm gonna watch this no matter what. I won't be able to help myself.

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

The first time I saw the FP scenes I thought it was kind of neat, but I think too much of that would give me motion sickness for sure. And in 3D...for get about it.

Still, I liked the trailer overall. I do like the darker tone. I'd rather they didn't do another origin story, but whatever. It is what it is.

that is the exact game I thought of when watching that scene

I have issues with Raimi's Spidey flicks (with the exception of 2, which I absolutely love) but what he got right was the balance of humor and danger. This just looks so... dark. "MAKE IT LIKE THE DARK KNIGHT" Sony Studio Exec #3 screamed at no one in particular....
Spider-Man: The Dark Bite ;)

this doesn't look dark it just looks stupid, but then the other 3 movies weren't all that interesting either

I see the word "emo" being thrown around to describe this trailer. You guys do know there's more to emo than just having unkempt hair right? Don't get the "Twilight" similarities either, unless this is about the unkempt still?

Anyways, I absolutely love Emma Stone, was impressed with Andrew Garfield in the Social Network, and I'm one of the few who got into 500 days of Summer very late but absolutely loved it, so I'll see this if nothing else to support those 3 people.

Big Boy Laroux 07-20-11 04:07 PM

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

Being one of the people that used the word emo - it wasn't the hair. I couldn't care less about the hair.

it's the depressing vibe; gaunt look (he looks like an addict); the way he's ambling through the hallways of the school; the black hoodie; and of course the general dark tone. It appears to be more than just the "nerd outcast" feel that spidey should have. I get the feeling the guy cuts himself in his spare time.

Hell, i may be confusing emo with goth. i do that all the time. :)

that cgi first person scene won't be in the movie

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

I don't think it looks horrible, but it doesn't look great, either. Then again, many of the superhero movies this summer didn't have great initial trailers. Some got better and better with different trailers (Thor, X-Men), while others got worse (Green Lantern). I will say, though, that Garfield better fits my own preconceived notion of what I think Peter Parker should look like.

I hope the score is better this time around. I absolutely could not stand Danny Elfman's score.

I dunno, I thought the POV shots were pretty badass and could be fun to watch in an extended scene in IMAX or something.

Isn't this going to be in 3D? I'm wondering if that's the "money shot" or whatever for the 3D?
