That's what I thought. Couldn't come up with one post of mine praising Battleship because you were talking out of your ass.

Of course, I'm sure that has to do with the fact that a better class of audience went to see that movie, overall.

how about having a mind of your own, and not one spoon fed to you by a subsidiary of Flixter?

I wasn't aware that Roger Ebert was a subsidiary of Flixster. Thanks for the info.

I'd actually rather not have a mind of my own, if that means I'd become stupid enough to believe that movies like Battleship have any artistic or critical worth. If that were the fucking endgame, I think I'd plug myself into the matrix.

Just talked to a TV movie critic I know about it and he says it's

Spoiler:
long, slow, Garfield cries a lot, the origin is the first hour and he gave it 2 out of 5. He says John Carter was better.

Reviews so far are mostly positive, but they do tend to agree it's a tad dull in spots.

I think there was some bizarre criticism earlier in this thread about this teenage Spider-man yelling "woo-hoo" while he was spinning his web. I was re-watching the original last night, and even in Mr. Raimi's flawless classic, Maguire belts out several woo-hoo's as he's swinging about.

Try convincing those who were critical of that. I think Maguire did it each film. Understandably...that'd be a fun thing to do, web swing.

Yeah, he does it all the way up to Spider-Man 3, as I just watched it again a few nights ago. That's a silly criticism of this current version.

But has anyone said that Raimi's movie is a "flawless classic?"

Spider-Man appears as if to fly directly out of C.C.'s ass... some people may find it comical.

Maybe it might be fitting depending on the opening weekend's box-office.

Roger Ebert's Tweet:

My review of "The Amazing Spider-Man." 3.5 stars. Probably the second-best in the series. http://bit.ly/LUrbof

So he considers this a continuation of Raimi's movies?

bluetoast 06-28-12 10:27 PM

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

According to his review he understands it's a reboot, so I guess he just said "series" when he meant "all the movies" or something similar.

Nice.

Ebert's really the only reviewer I find my opinion matches up with nearly 100% of the time, so this is great news.

Edit: This is a great summer for Superhero movies.

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

I liked this movie a lot. I liked it a whole lot better than the Raimi franchise.

The actors are much better this time around. The comedy is better.

The action scenes remind me of the previous movies, but that's because there's only so much you can do with these kinds of movies. I didn't feel like it tread new ground there, but that didn't matter much in the scheme of things.

Overall, a great movie.
