I like the look of it. It doesn't have the teal and orange look.

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

My problem with this is that it's far too dour. Sure Raimi's films were goofy but the drama only failed in those films because it was very "artificial" rather than because the films had a lot of goofy humour. Making it bleak doesn't suddenly make it "better".

I'm guessing they'll make a sequel or two (to diminishing returns) before they reboot it yet again. Hopefully the third time around they'll find the right balance.

I was just surprised with the trailer, more serious than I expected, but that could be a good thing.

Weird, that trailer seemed awfully familiar. Almost like I had already seen it before around 9 years ago..

Heh must be a coincidence.

I thought the same thing. Doesn't look much different that it would have to be remade.

I really hope this movie is a spectacular failure that sets a precedent for all movie franchises that think of remaking a film or rebooting after such an insanely short period of time.

Wow, If the new film is Dark, Serious, and a bit Edgy them I'm in like fuckin' Flynn. This may have some of the same "mature" qualities of X-Men First Class that I LOVED.

Also, I loved the "Mirror's Edge" type Spider-man crawl scenes the trailer.

It appears to be more than just the "nerd outcast" feel that spidey should have. I get the feeling the guy cuts himself in his spare time.

That's my problem with the trailer as well. Parker was always angsty, sure, but he was still a good kid. He was very supportive and loving towards May and Ben, and he was also a bit of a teacher's pet. Yeah, that makes him a nerd - and being a nerd was central to his character.

The broody, self-absorbed, snotty little punk in the trailer? He ain't Peter Parker.

Spider-Man is FUN. This trailer is not. The 'grim 'n' gritty' crap of the mid-1990s clone saga Spider-Man was the only time in 30+ years of collecting Spider-Man comics that I actually quit.

And therein lies the problem. The Twilight comparison isn't because the kid is lanky or because of his hair. (Peter was always a lanky kid when the comics first appeared.) It's because of this brooding nonesense in the trailer. This looks tailor made to sweep next year's MTV Movie Awards.

Parker has outcast issues (he's a mega nerd in highschool) and guilt issues (over the death of Uncle Ben) but he was always a nice and fun guy at heart. That's why girls like Gwen Stacey and Mary Jane would take a shine to him.

I picture this Spider-Man reciting shitty coffee shop poetry rather than cheesey one-liners and insults whilst fighting badguys.

Just read an idea from Theater Hopper (don't know if any of you read that web comic). And sorry if someone else had said it.

Since this is a teaser, how awesome would it have been to just be the 1st-person view? Leave out all the other stuff, and just have that rooftop scene as the teaser. maybe edited a little differently so that you don't see blue/red until maybe halfway through.

that would be a sweet teaser. Not a trailer, mind you. Just the teaser.

Spoiler:
Well he has a fair amount of one liners in this as well as having to deal with using his powers to find the killer of Uncle Ben. he sees how Ben's death has really shaken up Aunt May. He's marked as a vigilante by Capt. Stacy and has a conversation with Peter at the dinner table where they go back and forth about it. And Gwen is attracted to him because of his intellect, Connors sees this too because of how much Peter reminds Curt of his Dad, Richard. She also knows his secret. And they both end up with a cure for Peter's abilities, but he hears the speech about power and responsibility and wants to use his newfound powers for good rather than to go back to being normal. The villain is really Van Adder (and behind him eventhough we don't see him, Norman Osborn) as he's the one pushing Connors to find a form of super soldier serum using recombinant dna.

So... Just a shitty teaser? Because, although your summary still doesn't get me particualrly excited, it's more promising than the mopey dreck the teaser makes this film seem.

Well, Sony is not known to be particularly good at marketing their films. And it took me a long time to be interested in reading the script, but I finally sat down and did. There's a lot of the same, but there are enough different things that could make this a good film. I've never seen any of the Twilight to make any kind of comparison. But I can also see where the tone is not as campy so that they cannot continue the Raimi stories. It's sort of Schumacher Batman films get the reboot to the Nolan films.
Spoiler:
Peter has abandonment issues and is dealing later witht he death of Uncle Ben. So that's a lot to put on a 'teenager'.
The thing that is worrying me is what the Lizard will look like. It's make or break thing for the film. And how Emma will play Gwen. I don't think I've seen her in anything that wasn't comedic in nature.

SSP has no internal filter. You should know that by now.

This trailer blows. Even gave me a headache watching it. As a spidey fan, I'm really pissed at this reboot. I had no problem with Toby and the rest of the cast. They stayed true to the comic, and there was so many other villian stories that could be milked instead of watching the origin story all over again.

Raimi's Spider-man didn't stay true to the comics at all.

I don't get this historical revisionism that says all the Raimi Spidey movies were awful. I love the first two (yeah the Green Goblin armor is awful) and I don't think 3 is anywhere near as bad as all that. Raimi gets the tone of the comic unlike this mopey trailer.

Neither do I.

I thought the first two outings were great. And despite all of it's shortcomings and opportunities, Spider-man 3 isn't as bad as people make it out to be. It's not on the same level as the first two, but there's still some good to be found in there.

For what it's worth, I thought the movies were pretty bad even when they came out, I just wasn't here to voice those thoughts. ;)

I do agree that part 3 isn't that bad though, I mean, I actually found it more enjoyable than part 2, despite it's flaws. I really don't like Spider-Man 2, however, which is some sort of comic book film blasphemy, I'm sure.

Re: Spider-Man (2012, Marc Webb)

I loved Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2. The sequel was one of the best comic book movies to date. Ebert included it in his top movies of the year. Part 3 is bad though and suffered so much cause 2 was so good.
