So....I wonder how many Centipede-type birthday cakes are going to be ordered from these parts?

It's probably being released unrated, but with a no-under-18 policy in the theater. Nothing in the film comes near the violence of Hostel 2 or even Kick-Ass.

Another thing I couldn't help thinking about the movie while watching it, is what David Cronenberg would have done with the concept......

If Cronenberg had tackled this, then I think people might take it a bit more seriously. He also might have used some better known actors.

That said, why not go all out for the sequel? Throw some money out there and get Kim Kardashian to be the lead segment.

I think the writer or director will be on Kevin and Bean's radio show Thursday morning.

Seriously, WTF? Did the guy not realize what the movie was about before seeing it? Was he expecting it to be a Pixar film? Why bother reviewing a movie like this when clearly your not the target sicko audience. It would be like me reviewing a Kevin Smith or Tom Hanks movie. I don't understand the appeal so why bother sitting through it to review it.

Maybe he went to the screening not knowing much or anything about it besides maybe the very basic plot

Part of his job is to see movies where he's not the target audience? Movie critics have to do this all the time as part of their job.

That makes sense I guess. I didn't know he was a paid movie critic for a living. I just thought he was a board member that posted movie reviews whenever there is an opening for a new reviewer.

Same here

The film in general just feels like what us Exploitation/Horror fans have been waiting for

I just saw it ON DEMAND. It looks really good in HD!

The movie however is just fair to bad. It's certainly entertaining, but it's just not fucked up enough. He does the operation and that's it - it's not creative enough. The German doctor was awesome in it - definitely one of the creepiest roles this year.

Ichi the Killer is 100 times more fucked up than this film.

I don't think the movie reviewers on DVDTalk are compensated. I know the DVD reviewers weren't. I just meant reviewers here and paid critics should review all movies whether they are the target audience. Bias in any opinion or review is inevitable though.

I should use that as my quote.

Re: Human Centipede (What?)

Anyone that knows what movie they are seeing is not going to walk out of this film. Don't expect much. It's very tame. The good part of the movie is the build up to the operation and then the operation comes half way into the film. And then for the rest of the movie, nothing creative is done. I was expecting a "taking a shit" scene but nope. And everything is wrapped up around their mouths and asses - there's just nothing shocking about this movie except for the idea of it. There is nothing wrong with the typical horror movie story or the expected bad acting (from the girls), it's just not creative enough with the gross idea it has.

Ichi the Killer, Irreversible, and Seven are all 100 times more shocking than this movie.

me too...even Hostels and Touristas is more shocking, violent, and gorey than this one.

The only thing worth seeing in this movie is Dieter Laser performance.

That is the most dissapointing thing I can hear about this movie and the DVDTalk review would certainly disagree. Also the Star Ledger (here in New Jersey) gave it a good review today & definitely said people will be walking out. NY Post gave it a good review as well (from a critic that I actually like a lot).

Do people walk out of horror films? It's strange because if they know they are going to a film that is in the horror genre, I would only assume people would be walking out if a film either sucks or is boring (Human Centipede is not boring, in fact I wanted more), not because it is disgusting or shocking.

I like Mussetto too from the NY Post...his review just seems based on entertainment factor, which is fine.

The Hollywood Reporter review that gave the movie a score of zero is retarded: Credit or blame -- depending on how one looks at it -- certainly must go to this aptly named Dutch filmmaker for producing an effort so horrifically twisted that it makes the "Saw" and "Hostel" movies look like lighthearted romps. And that's without an excess of blood and gore.

I don't think this critic saw any of the Hostel or Saw movies. It's just the opposite - Hostels and Saws are so much more sicker than Human Centipede. The critic is just grossed out by the idea of Human Centipede.

Oh yeah, people definitely walk out, not on mainstream horror like Freddy or Jason movies but stuff like this. I saw Hostel in the theater (which I didn't like) and there was a group that literally ran out of the theater. Films with the cringe factor (like this one) definitely get people walking out. Often people will just see movies like this out of curiosity & not because they are huge genre fans, & it ends up being too much for them to take.

When I saw Paul Solet's Grace at the San Francisco film festival, a handful of people walked out during the scene Jordan Ladd gives the Water Bath and the aftermath afterward.

Also the time I saw The Devil's Rejects, almost half of the theater I saw it with left during the entire Motel scene.

This guy I work with who I thought was a hardened "Exploitation/Horror" fan told me he finally watched the trailer for this and he didn't know if he wanted to see it because it seemed too depraved.

I haven't seen the film, but I actually like the idea of things being hinted at in this sort of film, rather than be a gross-out fest just for the sake of.

Re: Human Centipede (What?)

The director should have had the "centipede" eat something and expel it with the camera focussed on the faces of the middle and the end. Then see how many in the audience sit through that.
