While I have yet to see if the movie is horrific because of content or the way it is executed, I will agree with you on this one.
We can joke all we want about the ATM aspect, but sometimes that is the only way people know how to deal with stuff that truly disturbs them. As I said before and another poster on her echoed, if this movie had been made by someone like David Cronenberg or Clive Barker, people would be saying it's a true return to form for noted horror directors. It would also most likely be getting more press and controversy.

Re: Human Centipede (What?)
The closest I've gotten to these flicks this year were "The Children" & "Grace" - those were somewhat tolerable and definitely well made but in no way came close to touching the ugly human element like you see in a lot of the horror flicks coming out today.
Seems like there's a shift happening from the standard torture flicks to the more fun spirited horror flicks these days - I could be wrong as well.
Believe it or not though, I actually thought Hostel 2 was pretty good as far as the torture flicks go, I hated the first but liked the direction the second one went in.
Now, we get to a flick like this - pretty gross shit man, kinda like that flick Feed - If any horror fan said to me "I just don't want to see it cause it's a fucking gross concept - just not into that type of thing" I wouldn't really go as far to reply with "well then you're not a true horror fan then".
Also, I don't if you're being serious or not by saying that - but even if you're not, it's still actually a good topic to discuss....hence my long, boring reply

Well, my response that the movie should have never been made goes more along the lines that there are more than likely much better ideas for horror movies out there that get overlooked. In the meanwhile a movie like this gets picked up specifically for the shock factor. I am all for freedom of speech and expression however, I think that this movie is simplying trying to scare us with shock value and a claim of being 100% medically accurate while that is flat out horseshit. There is no way that a group of individuals could be expected to survive on someone else's (recycled) shit and a lack of fluids. Aside from that there are also other things to take into consideration like a woman's menstruation, choking, etc. that make this even more horrific and the survival of the individuals very unlikely to succeed longer than maybe a day or so. I will likely end up seeing this just to find out if it is at least a decent horror, dark comedy but aside from that I just can't seem to wash the image of the girls' faces sewn to the asses in front of them. And if that doesn't bother you maybe the "nourishing" scene I have read about in more than one review just might make you realize how sick this movie is. And it wouldn't matter to me who directed it as I look at content of the film and not the director attached to it.

Re: Human Centipede (What?)
There is no controversy and there probably won't be since it isn't a big release and it doesn't originate from the United States. However, I feel that if it were made in our country and did have a bit bigger budget then it would likely draw some criticism for the material that it is about. The bottom line is that the movie is a disgusting but very silly attempt at grossing out people. The thought of people surviving an experiment of attaching one's ass to the mouth of another is asinine in itself.

Maybe I'm just not heavy in my biology of the body but...theoritically, as disgusting as it is...it could work. Don't think about the attaching of the mouth to an ass but the aspect of surviving off of shit...could that happen?*shudder*

It is really a shitty idea and the person attached wouldn't survive for very long. The previous person absorbs most of the nutrients from the food before it becomes feces. Given that how could one be expected to survive with a belly full of someone else's shit?

Well, good luck with the snack attack I guess. I don't see people surviving for very long especially when the same poop is recycled to the third person and so on.

This movie irritated me *because* of the biology. Antibiotics could make it safe to eat, but for the last person to live, you have to feed the first person so much food that the second person can shed enough nutrition for the third person to live off of in their stool. The "centipede" would have to be eating constantly.

I'l take a so-called shitty original idea over a shitty recycled one, the later being what 99.9% of horror movies are made of. Actually, maybe this movie is a metaphor on the crappy state of the horror genre, i.e. produce shit that makes money and then recycle that shit into even worse shitty sequels or copycats.
